I never cared for the stippling treatment. Knew a guy who would checker the front strap if he was in the mood, but he cut them like 50lpi to keep from getting too deep.
My good friend, who is an engraver came up with a slick solution to the issue. He engraves a crosshatch pattern and in the center of each diamond he uses a tool he made up to form a small rasp tooth. They can be dulled before finishing if you like, I left mine sharp.
The sights any decent pistolsmith with a mill should be able to handle. I used HP sized Novaks though some guys cut them for the 1911 sized sights. Put on a C&S safety if you want the larger paddle. And the C&S sear, hammer, and springs finish it off. I never found the C&S connector to be worth the time, YMMV.
