Well, hell, I'll take it a step further and ask why they don't build a quality falling block single shot .22 also. Remington & Winchester have been on the ropes how many times now in the last 50 years? Bet they focused on (what they thought) would get them the best bang for their bucks. I'm probably the last man standing who's never owned a 10/22 or Marlin 60. Never wanted one, never missed not having one. I do have a semi-auto .22, an old Stevens M87 with Tenite stock (the old "click-clack" semi) that my Gramps fixed up for me when I was a kid - but I haven't fired it in probably 20-30 years now. I should blow the dust out of it some day. Or not. As much as I agree with a lot that your saying gnoahhh I'm wondering if Winchester was testing the waters in 1999-2001 when they came out with the modern version Low Wall Falling block action in .22 cal. Even at only about 2400 mfg. and about 1100 mfg. in a high grade maybe their wasn't much demand for them back then. Don't know. I would imagine these would be a little harder to find than some of the other .22 Cal. Rifles available today. Once again Supply and Demand issues. IMO! HS 58 Indeed. My cry for a single shot was sort of tongue in cheek. I do own one of those Winchester (made by Miroku) low wall .22's, as well as a Miroku LW .223, and they're eerily accurate tack drivers. I'll sell either one about the same time Pappy348 sells his Miroku low wall .22 Hornet, which is to say never. But you're right, supply and demand rules. Digital Age 20- something's don't want stodgy stuff like super-accurate bolt guns and single shots - as a rule (I do see a few though). I see so many of them at ranges banging away like they're characters in Call of Duty, but at least they're shooting......

I have a very nice Remington 504 in 22 lr that was made in the 2006ish timeframe. While I was lucky to get a good one, many weren’t. I believe a batch of bad barrels made there way onto the market which sullied the reputation of a fine rifle platform. The public rightly expected a superior product at the price point this rifle came in at and many were rightly dissatisfied. Remington fixed the issues and upgraded the 504 platform to the 547. I’ve never seen a 547 in person. I believe by the time they got things right costs were out of hand and the 450 series of CZ rifles were widely available and overwhelmingly accurate. Big green didn’t put up much of a fight to go head to head with them.

Both Remington and Winchester used to make quite a wide selection of bolt action rimfire rifles, but both companies stopped cataloging them, Winchester in the 1970s with the 310/320 and Remington in 2000 with the 580/581/582.
Any idea why? Couldn't run with the big dogs.

Because Marlin had foot hold in a shrinking market - Winchester, Savage, Remington, and Mossberg faded out. Same reason Ruger never entered the pump or auto shotgun market.

I always wanted a good wood stocked bolt action .22. I have been promised a Kimber (that I have shot) that is very accurate, but the guy has to die first. What if YOU die first? My point being- life is uncertain. If you have always wanted one, go and buy a decent wood stocked 22 bolt gun... Tic-Toc, Tic- Toc. Of the newly made guns, my first choice is the CZ 457 American at $550 to $600. If you want to look around for a good used CZ 452 and can live with the trigger and the safety- it is a great gun as well. Both of those rifles will go up in value over time because they are quality. I own both models and they function and shoot great. Sorry, just saw this. I have been looking, especially now since my son wants to check out 22 LR PRS. Just saw a write up on a new CZ that showed amazing accuracy. From all I have read it may be the way to go. As to who will die first. Well, he's got 18 years on me but we both have the same health problems so it may be a toss-up.

I shoot a variety of 22's from old Rem M34's to a newish Nula with a Sako P72, early Ruger Mannlicher 10-22 in between and a tweaked sporter 10-22 that shoots with the best of them at 50 yards. They are all fun. ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/Vm0LWSp.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/Y8dRq87.jpg)
