I saw them once, worst concert I have ever been to. It was the Houston stop of the 40 anniversary tour. I don’t think they did a sound check. They never got the sound right.

That wasn’t really the Allman Brothers. I understand.

Live at the Fillmore is a great album. A shame that Duane is gone. And Greg was amazing in talent. Voice, keyboard, guitar. Sad to see the talent of a generation going away.

Yup…. Top of my list too….. crazy to think what they did in such a short amount of time with Duane….. then for all the stars to line up over and over with Warren and Derek…. Mind blowing.

When I was a teen ager in 1970, every band I knew was covering Allman bros songs.

"Allman was killed in a motorcycle crash shortly after the release and initial success of At Fillmore East.[25] On October 29, 1971. He was alive when he was taken to a hospital, but despite immediate medical treatment, he died several hours later from massive internal injuries."
In 1981 I was a paramedic at a small hospital in Milledgeville Ga. We were 35 miles from Macon. We had an ER doc named Dr. Williams who worked full time in Macon, and one night a week he would "moonlight" at our little hospital. Someone told me that Dr. Williams had worked on Duane Allman. Doc was out front taking a cigarette break, and I asked him about it.
He said, yes he was on duty that night in the ER at the Medical Center. He said Allman was brought in, he was conscious but very combative. Doc knew he was badly injured and he ordered 2 IVs, and Xray and CAT scan etc. Allman told the doc he wouldn't stand the CAT scan, he told Dr. Williams to go f*** himself, he tore the IVs from his arm and he walked out of the hospital AMA.
That is, Against Medical Advice. Doc said that, two hours later a car brought Duane back in and he was dead. Doctor Williams said to me "Duane Allman was a real a*shole."

I wonder if that was the tour I saw them on, Fox theater atlanta, is was terrible, we left half way through. They definitely mailed it in that night.

Drive by their grave site almost every day. Can take to the spot where he was hit.
Whipping Post, my fave of theirs, is on at least 2 albums, maybe 3 or more. One might be just a copy for a best hits thing or something. Anyway, the performance of it on the Filmore album is waaaaay better. The guitars come on much stronger, & Gregg seems to follow that with the organ & his vocals have way more soul & power. It's definitely one of those songs I crank way up.
