I have a covey of about 30 now hanging around my house in N Idaho. Hoping they'll spread so don't hunt them. I hunt them often in central Washington.


I run into quail around Plains, Thompson Falls and Missoula. Usually near housing








they seem to do fine in deep snow if they can find cover and food

About every 10 years the Missoula Valley gets between 75 and 100 inches of snowfall. That is the type of winter which keeps Valley quail from persisting in huntable numbers in all the low elevation western Montana habitats.

I had hundreds of quail within a 10 mile radius in my house in the cascade mountains in central WA. Average snowfall was around 130 to 170 inces a year. They can do quite well in heavy snow if they have the right cover , food and lack of predators.
