I just received a sporterized mauser that I know nothing about. I took the rifle apart to inspect and clean it and it seems to be in overall very good shape considering what it is.

It has no stamping other than PV with a "ferris wheel" logo above the PV, the wing safety has Duenler or Buenler, I can't make the first letter out well and the serial number on the left side of the receiver is 12808 and the floor plate has 44 stamped in very small font. The barrel has a ramped bead front sight (similar to Rem 700) and no markings other than 7.57 on the left side just in front of the front of the receiver.

Does anyone know what kind of rifle I have? I tried surfing the web, but didn't get any real answers.

PV is for "Poudre Vive" which I think is a proof for smokeless powder. It's a Belgian proof.

Perhaps the safety is marked "Buehler"? Buehler safety levers were popular aftermarket replacements for the originals which allowed low mounting of scopes.

Pictures would be very helpful.

Interestingly, the only markings on the barrel is 7x57. I do not see any manufacture identification.

What is the center to center spacing/distance of the action screws?

Diameter of receiver ring?

Given those dimensions, I believe what you have is a sporterized KAR 98, AKA Karabiner 98k. Markings were often removed as part of the sporterizing.

Thank you Craig.

What can you tell me about this model? Is there a way to know where and when it was made? Is the KA98 a good version?

You have a SR Mexican 98. Be glad it isn't a Kar98a.
