Anyone with experience in rebuilding or replacing a 6.7?

Had a service truck take a crap on the side of the highway the other day. Mechanic finally looked at it. Pulled the filter and said a bunch of metal in there. Engine is doa.

Starting to think about options.

Ford or Ram?

Sorry. Forgot that Ram has a 6.7 also.

It is a 2012 ford.

It sounds like a classic CP.4 failure. The engine probably isn’t toast but the entire fuel system is. I’m not familiar with Fords, but for a Chevy the repair runs around $10,000.

Edit to add: by pull the filter do you mean the fuel filter or the oil filter? A CP.4 failure wouldn’t fill the oil filter with metal, but it could conceivably fill the fuel filter (not 100% on this as I don’t know the Ford fuel system).

Sorry to hear it. Sounds like more than a fuel pump failure.

Catastrophic failure. Sorry to read that.

Will follow this. Hope you update as you make decisions.

It's a ford tradition, to die in the most awful of places. Ole boy from Texas was towing an enormous 5th wheel and died on the steepest section of hill from Fairbanksn AK to the Canadian border. It was a new 6.7.

One guy over-heated his torque convertor trying to pull him 5 ft. Was a 1/2 ton truck.

I hooked up, locked in 4 low with the ole 7.3. Ford guys always have sympathy for other Ford guys. I did damage 1 front axle u-joint towing him up a hill to a safe pull-over.

Not impressed with that shiny new truck.

Got the truck drug over and put in the back of my shop for now.

On the hunt for a decent replacement motor. To replace with most everything new, the local mechanic quoted me over $22k.

I would get on one of the Ford powerstroke forums and talk to the guys there, but how many miles on the truck/engine?

How did you manage to damage a U-Joint on pavement? Were you making tight turns in 4WD?

What was actually damaged on the TX truck?

No idea what caused the found on road dead, the blue oval maybe? A tow truck designed to tow big rigs towed them to Fairbanks

20+ year old front axle u-joints. Heard a clicking turning into the turn off. One of the 4 caps was bone dry, no grease.

20 year old u-joint. Hardly a Ford issue.
