REMARMS ANNOUNCEMENT ANOTHER SAD DAY IN THE EMPIRE STATEBy Larry Keane It’s a sad day and marked the end of a nearly two-century era in New York. Add another tally on the board for a hostile gun control Blue state in the Northeast suffocating and pushing out a storied, tradition-rich firearm manufacturer that decided enough was enough. RemArms, the latest iteration of Remington, announced it will close all manufacturing operations in Ilion, New York, and consolidate in La Grange, Georgia, completely leaving the Empire State in doing so. The doors will shut for good by March of 2024. “We are deeply saddened by the closing of the historic facility in Ilion,” RemArms CEO Ken D’Arcy said in a statement. The closure means roughly 250-300 employees will no longer have jobs, and so far, New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul has made no statement about the historic manufacturer opting to leave. The rest here. https://www.nssf.org/articles/remarms-announcement-another-sad-day-in-the-empire-state/

Pete53 Sure some of them probably were libs but likely most were not. but only one state in the US was more red in the 2020 election(Wyoming) than was Herkimer county NY which voted 68.80% for Trump. The dems couldn't give a crap what happens in rural upstate counties.

Good Luck Remington you made the better choice. Pete53 Ilion is a small town in Herkimer County New York. Herkimer County is one of the reddest Counties in the State. So red that a Democrat presidential candidate has only won in the County 3 times since 1884. This is a union busting move by a company that doesn't want to pay it's employees who actually do the work and make the guns a decent wage.

The truth would be closer to something like: this is a move by a company tired of being subjected to the extortion and blackmail of labor unions. You union f ucks just never do learn, do you? Truth be told, though, it probably goes much deeper than that.

In general the gun making biusiness is the only one that relies on the charity of it's employees to exist. By that I mean it don't pay shyt and most of the folks who work there know they could make more doing something else but stay because they're gun nuts and want to work with guns. They pay so pathetically in fact that we regularly lost experienced gun building employees to places like Lowes, a paint company and a wire company. We're talking people who were skilled at building high priced 1911's, fitting parts by hand, machining, tuning, polishing and finishing who left because they were offered more to run a paint mixer or a cash register or a wire winder than to build pistols. Remington paid it's employees a decent wage they could actually live on without having to work a second job. And that, is the fuuckin truth of the matter.

I don't know about the "union-busting" stuff, but have hunted (and fished) more than once in that part of New York State. which like many states is not all-blue or all-red. My experience is the same as Blackheart's--which his citing of the area's voting record confirms.

Winchester production was moved to SC to bust the union. That still didn't raise profits enough to suit so it was moved to Japan and Portugal. What an improvement. I always wanted a Winchster lever gun stamped "Made in Japan". NOT.

Remington moved because of Albany. Winchester moved because of Hartford.
That's the real story.

They moved because the South has such a fantastic reputation of building high quality guns. Machining in general.
Look how good Marlin became.
Just by moving South and getting highly skilled non-union workers.

Just by moving South and getting highly skilled non-union workers. What a joke. Southerners are well known up here for being slow and lazy workers and functional problems with the "Ruglins" are already being reported, which I predicted they would as soon as Ruger purchased the name. Ruger sends more junk out the door with their name on it than you can shake a stick at. Quality control is zip. Stamping the Marlin name on their product isn't going to improve the quality. The reason there are so many sub standard guns put out is the revolving door and constant influx of new, unskilled, under trained employees. It pissed me off to no end to spend weeks and months training somebody only to have them leave for better pay someplace else just as I had them putting out halfway decent product.
