Hands down the best war film I have ever seen. Three parts, maybe a total of 4 1/2 hrs. A German film with English subtitles. 94% give it a thumbs up. Be sure and watch it until the very ending and the credits start rolling.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

That's a good one. Gives you the effect of the war on the German civilians as well as a lot of combat action.

43...What did you think of the historical authenticity of vehicles, weapons and uniforms? I thought their technical advisors did a terrific job. Acting? When the young Germans who were gung ho about the war got their orders that they were going to the Eastern Front...the looks on their faces was priceless. It sure brought home the international truth of poor young men fighting old rich men's wars.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

I"m no expert on WWII vehicles, uniforms or heavy weapons but based on photos from that era I didn't see anything that looked wrong. Looking at the numbers killed on the Eastern front it had to be a meat grinder and I'd bet that after Stalingrad there weren't that many prisoners taken on eithe rside compared to the western front but I'd say neither one was a good place to be. I had two uncles that fought in Europe. One was killed in Holland and the other survived the Battle Of The Bulge. I remember hearing him tell my father he couldn't believe it was possible for him to be more afraid, "and I mean terrified", during the initial stages of the battle when they were being over run or colder once they got stabilized.

I just finished the final 3rd part and enjoyed it very much. Thanks for the tip, flintlocke, much appreciated! That HAD to be a tough time to go through for too many people.
