I only have (13) 223AI’s and only twist rates from 7” to 14”. 1-7” is simply King,no matter the projectile, with 88 ELD’s and 90 Beer Cans stealing The Show. Hint.
Just sayin’…………

Stick,
I can dig a 1-7" .223AI launching 88's but 75's in a 1-8" is so good on game at insane distances I gotta throw down the gauntlet.
LOL.
Pass the 75's and hold the fluff.
Most things I worry about, never happen anyway.

So, because I too wish to play with the cool kids, I think I would like to have a fast(er) twisted .22 for fun and games.
Now , I have dies and brass for the 223.....and naturally , I also have brass ( potentially ) brass for the Ackley. I now have a set of dies for the ackley, so that's not really a consideration.
My question is, those who have the Ackley 223 would you do it again?
I also think the 22 Creed is a cooler option, just not what is in the cards at this time.
BTW : I have the action and the 8 twist barrel..... You are an AMAZINGLY Dumb Fhuqker. Hint......... Another class post from the Campfire Village I D I O T..... Hint......

Having several AI rifles I love them all! Factory designs are good, made for mass production and easy for the end user but PO Ackley gave us something a little better to play with, like the 17 calibers.

So, for now the 62 ELD - VT has been working well on a few "earth swine" and paper.
I am really enjoying the 'no trim ' aspect of the cartridge, as well as the bump in performance.
I get that it ain't for everybody, but I really like having a non mainstream cartridge.
I will probably do it again.....lol

I would highly recommend doing it as you get to put a little bit more powder if need be in the biggest thing is is way less brass work

Lets be real honest.
The cartridge just looks cool!
Not for everyone, but then again those that take the time and effort are rewarded in spades.
For the increased performance plus the 'snob appeal' of having something that not everyone has , I am becoming a fan. Very very glad I took the step. Probably not a winner in an AR platform, but a bolt gun it does well
When I do another one, I will go 1-7
Thanks to all who shined the light

I have chambered several improved cartridges over the years. For me, less trimming and a sleeker look were the two big draws. With some, I even upped the velocities. I chambered most in single shots - but that is me.
I have never AIed a 223 because I built a 225 Winchester with a faster, 1 in 9 twist barrel. I have put together a couple of 6x45mms and redid several 303s with either 308 barrels, or as a 303 Epps Improved. That was primarily because of the improved case life and less trimming. The same with the 22 K-Hornet.
Improved cartridges were created in large part because of the times. Fewer cartridges existed. There was a transition from droopy, BP inspired brass to smokeless chamberings. More single shot rifles existed, so feeding problems were less of a concern. If Ackley was alive today, I suspect he would have abandoned improving cartridges. I say that because fewer small gun shop owners are working at improvements. Note that I said fewer, not none. The bigger companies are designing and building the latest cartridges now.
If you are happy with a 223 AI, you're golden. It's a fine cartridge IMO and one of the better choices to improve, if that's your thing.

Never was able to convince myself turning a cases to an Ackley was worth the time. One exception would maybe be the 22 Hornet just to get a shoulder on it. Ackley, it seems wasn't overwhelmed with his deal. But he did say his favorite was the 250-3000 Imp. Take something like a 280 Rem and Ackley it and pretty much end up with a un-belted 7mm mag! Think I read somewhere that the new shoulder does drop pressure some? Maybe it was control it also recall reading it hides pressure signs.

If the AI's weren't a good design/improvement, all of the newer cartridges wouldn't be designed after them. Isn't the 22 CM just a 22-250 AI?? Most newer case designs are less taper and 35* shoulder. Ackley's design was less taper and a 40* shoulder. Other than hair splitting, cases designed in the 21st century are already "AI", so what's not to like.

I had a 223AI built back in the late 90s. It was accurate and of course had a boost in velocity from the standard 223. Nothing bad to say about it, but not sure the gains are worth the money. I shot 40 and 50 grain bullets in mine. That was before the fast twist long bullet craze.

Yep, I odered two boxes of 80s from Sierra, they called and said they dd not have any 80s but they could send me 75 SMKs they were workng on producing, and send those. I took them for my 1-7 twist 22-250 AI. 3015 fps duplcases the trajectory table for a 50 BMG, and that cam for a cam adjusting scope. Works great in a corn field with crows and fresh sprouting corn. Laser range the crows and blow their fluffy adz up while they are pullinup sprouts, or so I have been told.

I’ve had a few, said I wouldn’t do it again just to end up doing it again. But overall there is nothing a 223 ackley is going to kill that a 223 Rem won’t. Less trimming is nice, but so are cheap dies.

I Ackley'd a 7X57 in a Ruger #`1...
It worked, shot well, Lilja bbl, twisted for longer bullets, yadda, yadda....... velocity??? I probably got more from the 28" Bbl than I did the case mod..
If I did it again, I'd likely use my fire FORMING shots for me and sell the formed cases after....
Fire forming shot remarkably well... HINT HINT HINT....
