Howdy fellers.

I'm again extending an invitation for you to hunt wild pheasants in beautiful South Dakota for this upcoming season.

Bird numbers will be excellent since we had good winter holdover numbers and favorable nesting conditions.

This is my TENTH YEAR of offering my house to hunters coming from all over the country. I have mostly repeat guys who stay from 5-20 nights hunting.

I serve excellent meals with many guys telling me they eat better here than at home wink

I provide excellent indoor accommodations for your hunting dogs in the dog barn and garage.

Indoor bird cleaning area with designated bird freezer adds to the great amenities provided.

References are gladly furnished upon request.

If you have been thinking of hunting the pheasant mecca that South Dakota is famous for send me a message so I can answer questions and give you all the details. Please include your phone number so I can give you a call.

The time slots I have available which include three meals each day are:

October 23-27 --- 5 spots --- $775 per person ***2 spots available***

October 28-31 --- 4 spots --- $775 per person ***1 spot available***

November is FULL

The following dates are LODGING ONLY so you provide your own food:

November 30- December 4 --- 4 spots --- $475 per person

December 5-9 --- 2 spots --- $475 per person

December 10-14 --- 7 spots --- $475 per person

50% down is required to reserve your spots.

Bobby's place is located in a great area. Hunter competition is usually fairly low, bird numbers are high, land access is easy, his house is nice, and the meals are good. I will be hunting with him in November for my third trip to the Bird Dog Bunkhouse. Put a GPS tracker on his truck if you want to find the best areas to hunt.

Man, I need to do this. I think my Airedale would LOVE this! I could probably talk my buddy and fellow fire member Jake into doing this.

That's funny Perry!

You and Jeremy get your limit every day without following me around. I figure both of you are good shots with those pump guns! It's nice not having hunters already there when we pull up to a hunting field. Lots of free places to go without paying big dollars to hunt private land.

Reba- We are on the east side of the Missouri River smile

Guys who are serious about coming to hunt here will message me with their phone number. Tire kickers just post questions.

I would be willing to wager that I could kill a limit each day without a dog. However, I would want at least one other hunter to help me block and push small pockets of cover.

I wasn't joking and my gun is a very well used Benelli with an extended magazine which aids in my theory of-if there is lead in the air there is hope.[Linked Image]

The time slots I have available which include three meals each day are:

October 23-27 --- 3 spots --- $775 per person

October 28-31 --- 4 spots --- $775 per person

The following dates are LODGING ONLY so you provide your own food:

My dog is very well mannered in the house, and she is not accustomed to the usual SD cold so I wish she could stay in the house at Bird Dog Bunkhouse. However, I understand Bobby's restriction because not all dogs are house trained or well-mannered. I can certainly see issues with 3 or 4 strange dogs in the house playing or fighting. Plus, the hunters track enough stuff in the house at the end of the day. Therefore, I keep her in her box in the garage and provide a heater if it is bitterly cold. At the end of a long day she just wants to eat and rest. She seems to do just fine because I trained a hunting dog as well as a companion.

I know this is a gun dog forum and I know people get very emotional about their dogs, but I would whole heartedly support Bobby's " no dogs in the house rule " if I were hunting there.
I have owned dogs for over 50 years and have never had a dog or pet in the house. Just never was raised that way. People have no idea what a disruption it is to show up with a dog and expect it to have the run of the house.
I hate the guys are gonna miss out on a good time and I respect their decision. Probably best for all involved. You should have no trouble filling their spots.

If these two massive house Dog beasts can survive nested up in a warm kennel in the garage....Any hunting Dog will not have a problem kenneled in the garage. A kennel cover or a blanket over the kennel, and when you open the kennel in the morning they will be warm. I've yet to see a Dog come out in the morning thinking it spent the night with Win Hof...

South Dakota....He slept well in the garage....And was ready to go in the morning.

Good stuff Harry! Can’t remember if it was Merlot or Higgie that managed to snag some donuts in the garage too.

That would be The Hyg….and he tipped over the garbage can to get to them. He also had some fun with a Pheasant carcass. 😁

I ended up a little embarrassed over that one. I got a little loud in being aggravated…. And was caught yelling at him. 🤣

Hank stays in the house at home, but had no trouble in the garage, in a dog box. I had him outside, but he was pretty vocal. Heck, after the first day he just wanted to lie down and rest. laugh

I was really hoping to make it back there this fall. Kinda bummed. The way the dates straddle weekends makes it unworkable for me this year.

I directed a buddy to this place a year or so ago but the "no dogs in the house" rule was a turn off for him. I've used a place in North Dakota for better than 20 years with a similar rule and none of the dogs have had any issues. There is a heated building where the dogs can stay which is about 50 yards from the house. This is kind of nice as some dogs have had separation anxiety and barked all night for the first night or two and the distance helped tone down the din.

I kept my dogs in kennels in the truck parked by the house. This made it more convenient to let them out before bed and the next morning. As mentioned, tossing a blanket that fully covers the kennel will keep the dog warm in some pretty cold weather. If one has more than one dog, a blanket that covers both kennels allows the dogs to share body heat to a degree. The one trip when temps was below zero for highs I doubled up the dogs in the travel crates in the back of the Suburban. Doing that with the blanket left the dogs plenty warm even in near -30 temps.

Expecting someone to allow 8-10 Dogs in their house is unreasonable and inconsiderate. Mistakes, marking, hair, smell, barking, etc. They leave and the owner is left with the aftermath.

Wouldn’t take long until none would want to stay there.
