My 1st 2 cars were a '59 Ford Fairlane wagon (college car) and a '63 Ford Galaxy 500. Both had benches and column stick shifts. It was mandatory for a young lady to be able to do the shifting without grinding off half the gears in the tranny.

First car was a 67 Ford Galaxy 500 with a bench seat. Never wore seatbelts then. Won’t drive without them now. I have driven many pickup trucks over the years with bench seats. When I was a teenager I worked at a full service gas station. They station truck was an early 70’s Chevy 307 with a 3 on the tree shifter. Bench seats. Loved driving that truck!

When the first cars came out with Bucket seats we called them Birth Control Seats, when lap belt seat belts came out most never used them, until they made it a law. Rio7
