Planning a visit to Galveston early June…

Anybody have any insights on fishing there, then…

Beach, pier, charter… Species, gear… etc. Looking into anything I might be able to get tight lines for myself and a crowd of relatives!

(LOTS and lots of PNW coldwater experience… zero Gulf experience!)

TIA

Still considering this... lots of people to please, so it's on the edge of impossible, but all options considered!

Take the ferry over to Bolivar and try some beachfront fishing if that sounds interesting. If the surf is flat it can be good at times. Light tackle and use soft plastics or live shrimp. You could also try the beachfront fishing piers on the Galveston seawall. The jettys and the Texas City dike are other land based options. The best fishing will be in the bays and marshes and will require a boat.

Are there concerns about eating fish out of the bay / canals?

None that I'm aware of. Late summer can have blooms of red tide that is toxic to small fish. The heat of summer can also bring vibrio out, but it's mostly dangerous to people with weak immune systems. Watch out for man of war jellyfish on the beachfront and stingrays and hardhead catfish anywhere in the salt. Don't tie a stringer of fish to yourself if wading, a bull shark can make things sporty in a hurry. Academy Sports or the local Walmart will have any gear you might need. Speckled trout, redfish, and flounder are the target species inshore.

Heading there next week, got a green light waterfront rental house for both my crew and my brother's crew. Excited to cast the surf too. Looking forward to some tight lines!

We stayed on a canal a couple years ago. Live shrimp, dead shrimp, and 4 day old grilled sausage all seemed to catch something in the canal.

These guys will make your hand swell up if you're not careful. But fun to catch anyways.

Don't try to pick them up after removing the hook. They're pretty quick.....hotwater will remove all pain, until it is no longer hot. Heating pad duct taped to your arm will let you sleep until morning when all is fine.

She had fun at least.

If directed at me, we were staying near Jamaica Beach.
