For the upteenth year in a row. I did not get drawn. I think I probably stand a better chance at winning Powerball. So, did anyone get drawn?

I applied every year for about a decade. I stopped when I realized how few non-residents get drawn.

I'll be a resident fairly soon, and will start applying again.

It used to be that all you needed was a valid deer tag to hunt elk in the areas outside the Elk Zone. You didn't even need to burn the tag. However, they changed that, and now it's a ridiculous price to get an OOZ tag. It's a shame. We frequently got elk coming down the Licking River flowage and moving up the hollows in SW Bracken County where my farm is situated. We'd get a whole herd camping out for a few days in late summer before moving on.

But isn’t it an amazing coincidence how many outdoor tv stars get drawn?

Dang it Shaman, the first I've heard of that. But I don't have a lot of connections along that section of water that I used to. Need to do some asking around, would love to see them sort of local.

And no James, not picked here but have quit applying. The thing is though, I know a train load of guys that have applied faithfully from day one, & only know of 3 from my county to get drawn ever.

The salad days of KY elk hunting may be over. First off, it's been several years since the elk were in my fields. I don't know what did it. They just stopped coming. Second, it used to be the locals in the Elk Zone used to complain about elk screwing things up. Those complaints kind of went away. The last I heard, they were still trying to figure out if the elk were succumbing, or if they'd gotten clued in about staying away from humans. If so, they seem to be hiding well.

Same with Oklahoma Elk draw. I know guys who have max points and have been putting in for 30 years. But the TV boys get the tags. Kinda funny.

The best spot I've found for discussing KY Elk is KentuckyHunting.net

I quit it few years ago. I'd been in it since day one. It's been an issue that has been brought up REPEATEDLY with KDFW, that's why there's that second chance draw or whatever they're calling it. I personally know one person who's been drawn. Another friend of mine, his neighbor across the road has been drawn twice, as has his daughter. Go figure. With the trespass fees people are wanting to charge now, I'll go pay an outfitter when I decide I want to spend that kind of money. I heard last year that there was a farm down east that was advertising $10,000 for a week. I can't substantiate that, but I did see with my own eyes a few landowners on Facebook asking $5000.

I put in for a few years along with Pennsylvania. I quit after I killed a bull in Montana. Like others stated, odds for a nonrez were astronomically low. The elk in Tennessee are starting to show up in Georgia and North Carolina. Maybe one day we will have a huntable population here.

Where? Haven’t heard a peep about elk here in GA?

While I do give credit to KDFWR for doing a good many things in this state, the fact is that they are after the dollar first. They know that they can get thousands of dollars and media exposure by making sure that the TV show hunters get those tags....................even though it's going to mean that residents of the state who have been faithfully putting in for the elk draw for many years will never get the chance to hunt.

They also know that there is trouble with the turkey population in state, yet they continue to act as if nothing is wrong. We have a good deer herd in the state, one that produces trophy bucks every year, but the number one priority of KDFWR is selling as many tags as possible. They focus more on bringing in money than they do in managing the resources we have.
