Hi guys... picked up a really nice knife from R O Easler and don't know much about him. Understand he passed away several years ago.

Anyone know much about his knives? Picked this one up and really like the shape and quality is very nice. Not sure what steel he used. Looks like ram horn scales on it. Also, is date code on sheath mean it was made in 1991? Thx.

Russell's oldest daughter, Suzanne is married to my best friend. He lived here in the SC upstate with his wife till his death. Brian likely made that sheath. That's 91. The scales could be , literally, anything as Russell's had hundreds of pounds of material. Brian actually has all the steel and scales and equipment now.
Russell's was a great guy and he'll of a blade maker.
If your into SC makers, I'm friends with Joe Prince. He's been in the guild since the 70s.

What you want is a Easley - Gaskins collaboration.

It's Russell Easler and Ron Gaston.

I have had a half dozen of Easler knives over the years.

He did very clean work and built a solid knife in a variety of patterns.

They did tend to be a bit on the heavier side.

The best looking knife I have ever laid eyes on, was an Easler Bowie with a scrimshawed handle! The scrimshaw work was of a naked lady and the overall knife was amazing.
