As a fan of 19th century firearms, Mike was always one of my absolute favorites. Not many guys write with the thoroughness and expertise of Mike, and I always appreciated the fact that he's always working with handloads with his own cast bullets. Count me as a fan, he will be missed.

I have a couple of his books. RIP.
I interacted with him on the Colt forum, briefly, on a question about the Model 1860 Colt replica, back a couple of years ago.
A real loss for the gun community.

I have his book on single action revolvers, and 19th century lever action rifles...both are outstanding books. Very well researched, very complete. I don't own a buffalo rifle, nor do I really want to...but I'll be buying that book as well.

It doesn't seem so long ago when he first appeared on the gunwriting scene.
It's sad to lose a guy like Venturino, but no one is going to be around forever. On the other hand, his writing will endure like the greats who went before him.

Mike wrote like he spoke, a good writer and a decent guy. He will be missed.

Sad news - he was one of the great ones in my opinion and I’ll really miss his contributions to the shooting world! Hope he is shooting some Lord Black in a fine single shot!!

That is bad to hear about. RIP The first issue of Shooting Times Magazine I bought at a newsstand in Germany was also his first issue he wrote an article for. Guess what the topic was. It was about accuracy of Colt Single Action Army revolvers. A 45 Colt with 7.5 inch barrel, a 44 Special with 5.5 inch barrel and a 357 Magnum with 4.75 barrel. Later on he wrote for G&A. Just recently I read one of his old articles from the 1990s about the versatility of 38 Special/357 Magnum and its revolvers. Not neccessary to mention that I have some of his books. The book about the Colt SAA was ordered from and signed by him.

An old WV guy like me. Grew up in the southern coal fields about an hour from me. He'll be traveling the country roads to heaven. RIP, Mike.

I liked his articles.
