I later learned the guy was cartel but never found out the reason for the celebration. As for whether I ever bought a round for the house? Frankly, I was never all that fond of going to bars so no, I never bought a round for the house.

I've spent a few bucks in TD's east when I lived in the area. Last time I was there was probably 14 years ago or so. They had some great talent. But if you knew what some of the tat's meant on the girls you knew who they really worked for. wink. Raiders Reef however was other end of the spectrum. Watered down beer and c sections with lumpy mismatched boobs.

The way prices have gone up, buying a round can put a serious hit on the wallet these days.

Maybe not as common here as it used to be, but still fairly frequent. Small bars, drinks $3 - $4, doesn't break a guy and it gets reciprocated; like a guy said when I suggested a beer, "OK, 10 or 12 quick ones, then I gotta go".

My in laws owned a bar in a small German catholic town. Draft beer was .50 and a shot of whiskey was $2.00.

I bartended for 3 years and it was not uncommon to have multiple rounds bought for the bar on any given night.

Used to frequent a club near a small town with a small church affiliated private college. Wednesday night the college girls from back east flocked to the place. Target rich environment!

They had a happy hour that featured ten cent glasses of draft beer. A local band and a dance floor completed the scene(the band was pretty good!). Three or four pals and I would flip out a 5$ bill and the waitress would bring 50 glasses of beer; so armed we would try to get acquainted with the ladies. Often the first investment in beer was augmented.

Fell in love several times...

Right before the surge in the Iraq war I was in St. Louis on business. The plane home was pretty empty and I'd been upgraded and was all settled in when they announced a delay. The flight attendant came by and said we were waiting for a group of soldiers who had just completed a Transportation Course at Fort Leonard Wood in preparation for deployment. They showed up not long after, and as the flight attendant watched them settle in she turned to me teary-eyed and quavered "they look so young..."

Anyway, after the plane leveled off I called her over and bought a "round for the house" for the plane.

Not long after the news every night was IED, bomb, etc. I've thought about those young men and women often.

WAs in the Salty Dog in Homer one afternoon wit ha couple friends. A group of guys came wandering in and were having fun. One asked what the bell was for and when the barmaid told them, two of them started arguing who was going to do ring it.
Pretty soon, they both had done it and 2 free rounds came to our table.
Ran into them a few nights later at the Bush Co and bought them a few drinks to return the favor.

Happens at my watering hole frequently.

I don't see it as an art, just coming off your wallet and enjoying your fellow man
