A Soldotna man who charged responding officers with a harpoon was shot and killed early Monday morning by an Alaska State Trooper, according to authorities with the agency.

This kind of insanity isn't just under the midnight sun. The entire planet has gone insane. It conjures up ancient analogies of demonic possession. I'm wondering if much of this is suicide by cop, or if these people actually believe that they have some sort of legal or constitutional right to attack armed police without consequence.

Yeah, there's a sure sign of insanity.

I had to laugh when I read Claim 2.

"In Claim 2, he alleges Attorney General Treg violated Plaintiff's right to free speech because he was never able to tell his side, was never involved, or was asleep when a domestic violence order was issued against him ."

I do give him a little bit of credit for his disdain of Murcowski.

Son -in -law call Tuesday night about 8pm said someone in his back yard it is fenced in and locked up. Guy was naked and on some kind of drugs. They live in town small one. I told him to confront him and tell him to leave. I am on my way. We are 10 min from town. Got their guy has picked up one of my grandson's bats. 12ga in hand #6 shot told him to leave a drop the bat. He came at me wrong move. Shot him in lower legs. He was down and state trooper came up the drive. I put down 12ga. did not want to get shot. Trooper came in, gun out and ready. Guy was over in corner cussing me. Trooper call for medical. All said and done no charges on me. They had been looking for him for a few hours. Breaking and entry found his stash on other side of fence. It is crazy times even in small towns. SIL now has one of my 12ga's.

I’m afraid of lawsuits by the attacker if I wound them. Guess I would have shot to kill🤷‍♂️.
But wounding gives them a chance to change their life and save their soul.

Well, they are castrating little boys and cutting off the breast of girls and calling it therapy. Demonic is exactly what is happening.

GF saw a near naked man walking down the center of the highway the other morning. when she slowed down to avoid hitting him, he raised his arms and ran at her. Luckily she missed. When she called 911, she got put on hold for minutes until she just hung up.
Her coworker was 15 minutes behind her and said when she came thru, the guy was handcuffed to a lightpole and there were 6 cop cars there.

Just for reference (or reverence)

and...... fer' schitz n' giggles.....

The Cremation of Sam McGee

There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee.......

I too, thought this thread would be about Sam Mcgee. We had to memorize a poem in 8th grade. That's the one I chose!

I did the same poem except in 10th grade. I also did "The Shooting of Dan McGrew" as the second poem we had to recite to the class. For extra credit I did "The Ballad of Blasphemous Bill." If I would have had more confidence I might have done one of those poems for 8th grade English class but I chickened out and did, "The Charge of the Light Brigade" instead. That got me a place as one of the chorus singers for "Blood on the Risers" which the school chaplain sung in the school talent show. He carried a BAR in the 101st Airborne. He missed D-Day but not anything else.

I/ve mentioned before that my maternal grandpa passed when I was 10 or so (1961). A short time after he was buried I came upon a stash of his books of his my mom brought home. Jack London, Rudyard Kipling and R.W. Service.

Like others here, memorizing and reciting poems in class was a requisite at that time. My favorite Service poem at that time was........

Grin

If you're up against a bruiser and you're getting knocked about --

Grin.

If you're feeling pretty groggy, and you're licked beyond a doubt --

Grin.

Don't let him see you're funking, let him know with every clout,
Though your face is battered to a pulp, your blooming heart is stout;
Just stand upon your pins until the beggar knocks you out --

And grin.

This life's a bally battle, and the same advice holds true

Of grin.

If you're up against it badly, then it's only one on you,

So grin.

If the future's black as thunder, don't let people see you're blue;
Just cultivate a cast-iron smile of joy the whole day through;
If they call you "Little Sunshine", wish that THEY'D no troubles, too --

You may -- grin.

Rise up in the morning with the will that, smooth or rough,

You'll grin.

Sink to sleep at midnight, and although you're feeling tough,

Yet grin.

There's nothing gained by whining, and you're not that kind of stuff;
You're a fighter from away back, and you WON'T take a rebuff;
Your trouble is that you don't know when you have had enough --

Don't give in.

If Fate should down you, just get up and take another cuff;
You may bank on it that there is no philosophy like bluff,

And grin. ...........R.W. Service

ya!

In the early 1990s I was at work when an unclothed male walked into the back door of our house and proceeded through the laundry room, into the kitchen, where my wife was doing some baking. This guy, it turns out was homeless and well known to local police as an occasional miscreant and frequent burglar.

He seemed shocked to find my wife in the kitchen and raised a pointed finger as if to lecture her. This was about the time my 90 lb yellow lab, Pete, grabbed him at the natural bite point for a large dog and a standing person.
We had occasionally seen this guy wandering the neighborhood. Never saw him again...

Police told us that they found and arrested him, also taking him to the hospital for an ugly dog bite. He was one of many released, in the mid 80s from a state mental facility that was closed, and reopened as a prison. Supposedly never harmed anyone. Rough life...
