Got back from a 10 day safari in southern Zim with Nengasha Safaris a few days ago. A great experience with knowledgeable DG PH and outfitter. Base camp on the Limpopo is a well run and very comfortable place.
The object was 2 tuskless elephants in the Marimani CAMPFIRE area, a now familiar place. Good numbers of elephants with excellent tracking and an expert PH who excels on eles. Saw a couple of very good mature bulls carrying heavy ivory for Zim. That’s another story, hopefully for a future date.
As usual followed spoor to the herds, planned and executed approach and had a successful hunt on days 1 and 6. Mature old tuskless each time. CEB BBW #13s 0.458” FP Safari Solids - 450 gn in a Ruger Safari Magnum 458 Lott and 500 gn in a Win M-70 Classic 460 G&A - once again proved their reliability in straight line penetration and effective terminal ballistic performance.
For the balance of the hunt we found a truly old waterbuck - body size much larger than the one I shot in Mozambique some years ago - with thick bases and very good length. A nice zebra stallion rounded out the hunt on the last day.
A visit to Fly Camp on Nottingham Estate is a once in a lifetime experience to see hundreds of elephants, baboons, eland bulls, etc feeding in a protected environment. Well worth the trip for anyone visiting the general area.
Now the wait for the waterbuck, zebra and last year’s duiker to come home.

Very nice, Thanks for the writeup, bet it was indeed a grand time, i need to go for Ele and Lion in '25 to get the Big 6 rounded up, i may be wrong, but think Hippo bull on dry land at 18 yards with a 577 double is/should be included.

I have chosen not to hunt hippo because I don’t want to shoot one in the water.
It’s hard to find places, I’m told, where you can shoot them on dry land during the daylight. If I can arrange that I’ll be very tempted to go after one.
Different strategy than for eles but very similar DGR and bullet requirements to reliably bring down a hippo as for eles.
