Shot the Matthews Lift and the Hoyt Alpha X today.

A lot has changed in the world of bows since I bought my last one in 2003. A Matthews Outback.

I think I may have to flip a damn coin. They felt great. And absolutely dead in the hand. The Matthews had a bit more solid of a back wall. But not by much. The Hoyt had a bit smoother draw. Again, not by much.

Both were set up at 28.5” draw and 60# draw weight. And according to the price tag, they’re both made of gold.

Didn’t run them through a chrono but I imagine they’re both significantly faster than my current set up.

I was in your shoes 3 months ago but decided on the Hoyt Ultra Rx8 for the draw cycle but it was damn close. Can't really go wrong here.
Good luck!

I settled on a Prime a couple years ago. Quite happy with it!

I tried the Lift and Alpha X today, among others. The Lift got set down after two shots, that's all it took. The end of the draw cycle felt much heavier than any of the other bows, just didn't like it. The Alpha X got a new home.

The Lifts are having limb issues. Google and do research.

I read on ArcheryTalk that the limb problems were taken care of now. And the Lift has sold in huge numbers so reported numbers of problems are skewed due to the high numbers of sales.

I'd suggest you have the shop set up a Phase 4. It will give you that smoother draw with a solid wall.

With the price of bows nowadays, I'd buy strings and parts for the one you've been wacking stuff with and keep on rollin...

Yep. Replaced by Matthews immediately. Part of the reason I’d consider them.

It has a great “back wall” and I like that. Hoyt was a bit softer but not a bunch in my opinion. I’m having a hard time choosing.

I did that a few years back. It works as is and would be survivable for some time if I decided to go with it.

My entire family has bought or been gifted a bow in the last 3 years. None are top of the line and all are quieter, faster, and lighter than mine.

After over 20 years of using it, it’s time for a new one. Plus, I want a new damn bow lol.

What did you go with for sights, rest, stabilizer, etc…?

I sure like Elite. I probably will get a 2025 Elite Exalt 35 and put some custom strings on it. I like the heavy Spot Hogg 7 Deadly pins and Trophy Taker Smackdown limb driven fall away rest with 10 inch stab. I have about four outfits set up with longer 33-35 inch ata bows and it is what I like. I have a hybrid cam Anarchy, a 2019 Elite Ritual 35 that I am hunting with this year but I also have a 2021 PSE EVO EVL 34 and a 2021 Elite Encore 33 but like that Ritual best.

So did you get a new bow? Been waiting to hear, I'm still shooting an Outback but keep thinking about replacing it. Just never have.

Did you go with the Alpha or did you decide to step into a RX 8?

Not yet Jim. I’m also shooting the Outback. It’s time and it’s going to happen soon. Still don’t know which one.

The dealer I was at on Thursday told me that he’s 99.9% sire there won’t be much of a change from Matthews since they made drastic changes last season.

You should go shoot a lift. It will blow your mind compared to your Outback.

Neither yet. Haven’t shot the RX8. I’m hoping the new bows come out soon and I can grab a few $100 off.

Both shops I’ve been to told me to wait and both told me to shoot the RX8 before I decide.

While I haven't shot a compound in 13 years, I was fortunate to live 45 minutes away from LAS. This made bow buying easier as I could shoot different bows there.
I would recommend that you look for a good shop that carries several brands and go there to shoot as many brands as you can.
