Man, I've looked all over and can't find the answer to this (should be) simple question. Can somebody help me?
How do you measure the height of a front sight? From the bottom of the dovetail to where...the bottom, center or top of the bead?
I'm trying to replace the front sights on a 9422 and a 9417 with fiber optic sights. I know they are 3/8" dovetails on ramps.

I saw a movie where only the military and the police had guns. It was called Schindler's List.

Thanks, but I've been downloading that first video for 45 minutes and still nothing. I know you are trying to help, but can you just tell me how to measure the height of a sight...to the bottom, middle or top of the bead is all I want to know.

Measure from the top of the bead to bottom of the dovetail.

Thanks...except that in another forum I got a different answer. See how confusing these little things can be? I'll call Midway or Brownell's.

I called Midway and the guy was apparently new, and I think I got him confused...he said from the top of the dovetail to the top of the bead. I then called Brownell's and they said the industry standard is to measure from the bottom of the dovetail to the top of the bead. Your answer was apparently right. Thanks.

cossack2;
Thanks. My question was answered there, at the bottom of the page: "For rifles, you measure the front sight height from the bottom of the dovetail to the top of the sight".

Neat formula, too. I'll keep that.
Thanks again.
