Got this one yesterday, big mature male. Sending it to the taxidermist, but this is the biggest I have ever seen. Maybe I just always ran into same year birds prior...

We also call them Bombers.

The only game bird in the U.S. that is bigger is the turkey.

The largest Sage Grouse bombers that I've shot or ones that people that I was with shot were maybe 7-8lb tops.

Yep. Killed my first sage grouse here in Montana 55 years ago, and have killed and seen killed a bunch since. The heaviest weighed 8 pounds on the nose on a good scale, and the wingspan (held gently, not stretched too much) was 44 inches.

I’ll bet that tasted like a sage flavored moldy tennis shoe, and was about that tough.

When a flock gets up, I try to shoot the smallest…and I expect you do as well!
