I have a new Ruger Bisley in 45 Colt. I plan to work up a light load and a heavier hunting load for elk, deer, black bear etc. I know which bullets to try for the heavy load but I wonder if any of you could suggest which bullet might be most accurate for a light load? I have used the Mid-Kansas Cast Bullet Company's 250 RNFP with good success in my other Ruger Bisley 45 Colt along with Oregon Trails Laser Cast 250 RNFP but I have heard that the Keith style bullets tend to be more accurate. I am considering trying the 270 grain Keith bullet from Leadhead Bullets (proshootpro.com). Would that likely be any more accurate than any others for a light load? Any other suggestions? I have had good accuracy with the 250 RNFP bullets mentioned with 6.2 grains of Hodgdon Titegroup or 10.0 grains of Universal Clays. If I try the 270 Keith from Leadhead what powder and charge would likely give best results? Thanks, Rufous.

I've discovered the swaged bullets availiable from Hornady, Speer, etc. are much more accurate than any of the cast varieties. The swagged bullets vary a great deal less in weight. I suggest you try one of those for the best accuracy. E

I've always used the same bullets and powders for my heavy and light loads, whatever the caliber -- just load 'em light or load 'em heavy. I use only the Keith bullets and their close copies and have had no cause for complaint. In the old days, I cast all my bullets. In recent years, I've bought a lot of cast bullets (Keith-type) but will soon be casting again.

My first cast bullets (in a .38-44 S&W Outdoorsman, about 1952) were round-noses with a flat front -- about 150 to 160 grains. As soon as I heard how much better the Keith bullet was, I went to that and similar semiwadcutters and found that the rumors were sound. In the .357s, .44s, and .45s that followed that old .38 Special, I've gotten my best results, all-around, with heavy semiwadcutters.
