Any thoughts or opinions or experience on studding or inserting sheet metal screws in tires an ATV. The lugs (or knobs) on the tires are two plus inches long. So not warried about flattening the tires. Might just buy "V"-BAR chains.

Look up Grip Studs. They screw in but hang in there pretty well if you don't have access to a stud gun to install studs.

For toting packages as you’ve stated, I think chains would be the ticket. I went through this same ‘algorithm’ when I first got my compact tractor. I got regular tire chains, not v-bar.

Having just now shopped for V-BAR chains. I am not sure they will work, unless I get new tires also. Which is painful give the machine only has 85 miles total on it. The lugs or knobs are so huge I fear that 80% or 100% of the chain will not be touching the ground surface, it will drop down between the 2" lugs/knobs.

Diamond v bar chains should stay mostly on top.

Diamond v bar chains should stay mostly on top. Works on tractors. But so do the regular heavy chains Dad built out of sets of heavy truck chains. They go between the bars a bit, but still work fine.

I used the sheet metal type screws they used to sell in the MC parts catalogs for that purpose . They worked pretty good on my two wheelers until you hit solid or icy ground with the tire spinning , at that point you did not want to be the person riding behind me .

I run studs and everything I got kutter brand, they wear down faster than I like they have threads that hang on to the rubber though unlike a sheet metal screw you'll be replacing them you can get some serious sheet metal screws tho... Never ran my wheelers without stud you go over a a tree or a log with the soggy bark peeling off not me I saw my way through that thing with my tires
