22 LR with scope 50 yards, 17 Mach II, 65 Yards, 17 HMR 100 Yards, 22 Mag 100 Yards. I shoot mainly ground squirrels here in CA. Average shot is about 75 yards (best guess), although I've shot them considerably longer with the 22 LR and the Hummer.

50 yards 'cause I only have to "hold over" about 3-4 inches to get a "center hit" at 100 yards... and hold a "tad" low to hit at 25 yards.

Due to the accuracy of most .22 rimfire rifles, it's relatively easy to get a solid "hit" on a target at 100 yards when it serves a purpose.

Naturally, to do so, one must be shooting from a solid "rest". However, the lack of recoil aids one in very accurate shooting from the muzzle to 100 yards.

Beyond 100 yards, the serious bullet drop plus variable winds make it difficult to get consistant "bulleye's" with the little .22 rimfire cartridge, but between the rifle's muzzle and 100 yards, the soft-kicking little .22 rimfire long rifle "rules". smile

Yes, particularly for squirrel hunting, 25 yards is much more practical IMHO.

My Remington 541t bolt rifle is sighted in at 25 yards, with CB longs.
My Ruger 10/22 is sighted in at 50 yards, using CCI mini mags.
