Ruger American 300 BO is 1:7. I guess that must be pretty standard for that round. May be for heavies going subsonic.

I tried but never could find a Cascade in 300BO. How's yours shoot and handle?

I shoot mostly cast in it but did load a few Sierra 150gr FP (3030 bullets) and they shot great! It was only 50 yards but the group measured .31. It’s the bullet I’ll use to hunt deer with it and I need to sight it in with them next week.

16” barrel so it handles like a dream and the trigger (never weighed) is probably 2-3 lbs with a very clean break. This is my 4th Cascade and they all have the same trigger. I tried the trigger at the shop I bought it from (ordered in) and then handed it to the shop owner. He said “Wow, wasn’t expecting that!”

I make all my own cases. Made a jig and cut them with a diamond blade in my table saw 16 at a time. I think I’ve cut 7 or 8 hundred like this for myself and 2 buddies. They size and trim their own…

Going to AR platform, away from bolt action, here's my suppressed SSK .300 Whisper. It has a gas valve to adjust for sub vs. super sonic loads.

Pretty neat set up from J. D. Jones, a real innovator. Back in the day, I was privileged to talk to him on the phone. Very helpful and knowledgeable guy

Sounds like I would have been happy with one if I could have found one. As it is, the Howa mini I ended up with is pretty slick.

I'm curious about the jig and table saw setup. Got a picture by any chance?

I have a Gen 1 Ruger American Ranch rifle, in .300 Blackout, and it shoots very well. Mine is the original version, with the rotary magazines. Of the three Ruger magazines I have, two of them don't like the Barnes 110gr Tac-TX bullets. They all feed other ammo and bullet types, without issue, but only one of them feeds the long/pointy Barnes bullets very well.

I have a Gen 2 Ruger American Ranch in .350 Legend. It shoots amazingly well, and I'm planning to buy another once I decide on the next chambering. If I was in the market for another .300 Blackout, the Ruger American is a solid choice.

I also have a Kimber Adirondack and 10.5" PSA upper on an AR (SBR) in .300 Blackout. They are all a bunch of fun to shoot suppressed! In the bolt guns, I like 7.5 - 8.2gr of Lil'Gun, with the 190gr Sub-X, depending on the temperature. I need to run lighter powder charges in the winter to keep them subsonic. In the SBR, I'm running A1680 with 220gr BTHPs.

Thoroughly enjoying Alaska since 2001.

If you like the Howa then you did ok. I already had 3 Cascades so it was a solid bet to get another one.

I’ll get you pic. PM me with an email address and I’ll send you a video of it in action.

For how cheap bulk ammo is and its limited range I can justify it.
BO has similar Balistics but twice the price. I just don’t see the hype about BO for the additional cost.
If I wanted something more practical or more versatile, I’d be looking at 6.5 Grendel or 6.8 SPC.

Twisted for the heavies/subsonic. 7.62x39 is not.
Cheap 7.62x39 ammo is normally less than accurate.
Yeah, my cz shoots the cheap ammo at moa. So there is that.
Educate me or sell me on what the point of heavy subsonic hype.

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

With heavy subsonics, you can turn your .30-30 class cartridge into a really quiet .44-40 with better ballistics.

Honestly, for most it’s the novelty of a really quiet centerfire. All things equal, if you aren’t shooting suppressed or reloading I’d buy the 7.62x39.
I’ve only shot it in Chicom SKS/AK platform but good ammo in a good bolt gun with cheap plinking ammo option it has a strong argument.

I can accept a novelty.

But IMO , AR platform that guys plink standard ammo is $ down the drain vs 76239

I do reload.. so I rather just make my 308 subsonic with a can. And have the option to load up

Just tougher to eke out accuracy with the popular 208gr-220gr class bullets in a .308 at subsonic speeds. The Whisper is purpose built for this niche market.

Like I said, as soon as my ammo stash is gone, I’ll jerk and sell the barrel and rebarrel to either 6x45 or 7mm TCU or just build a 3rd .223AI 1:7 since I’ve been itching for a heavy one.
