When I was 18 I usually went to town and cruised in my car and met up with friends . A true waste of time looking back. I was from a small town and all the quality girls went off to college . Was with your Mom. I was with Add's Mom while he was with Alan's Mom....

Carload of guys to Storm Lake for a movie or bowling. Stopped at the 3&71 truck stop on the way home for three over-medium eggs, hash browns, and toast. If not that, penny poker at somebody's house and then off somewhere for a burger. We were quite wild.

Usually hunting or fishing with dad. During the summer hit the bar and dance hall 18 was legal drinking. Close the place down pick up a case and head to my buddies to bank fish and drink beer until his mom called us to breakfast and then head to bed.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Pick up GF, go to Dairy Queen, eat a double cheese burger, a large fish with cheese, & drink a large chocolate shake sittin in my 67 Camaro in the parking lot. Go park, gouge, take nap, listen to Allman Bros. or Santana, gouge again, repeat till 11:45, take GF home. Then go home & sleep till 11AM next day. Or whenever my old man rolled me out.

Went off to college in Upstate NY, still love the area. Didn’t know anything about college, got there on scholarships, quite by chance ended up at one that was 70% female. Remember the Castle Anthrax in Monty Python and the Holy Grail? It was sorta like that Last two years transferred to a forestry school, 80% male, great school but quite a social letdown.

When I was 18 I usually went to town and cruised in my car and met up with friends . A true waste of time looking back. I was from a small town and all the quality girls went off to college . I graduated from high school in late May before my 17th birthday in September. My 18th birthday I was in my sophomore year at Auburn. Some of the greatest years of my life. Was that timing and graduating when I did, a year or so early, that put me back home in Idaho working for Morrison-Knudsen that positioned me to meet my wife of now 40 years while she was an undergrad at Boise State.

I lived outside of a small town called Pleasantville. Another small town 12 miles away had a dance every Saturday from 8 to 11 PM. Me and my buddies would split a case of beer between the 3 or 4 of us, and we’d all take one car and ride the ridges looking for deer or whatever up until about 930 or 10, then we’d close down the dance. At 11 when it was over, we’d head for P-ville for the Drag Races. Every Friday and Saturday night from about 1130 to sometimes 3 or 4 AM. Some nights were nothing special, but occasionally we’d get some true race cars trailered in for big money. Most of the time it was just us locals with our everyday cars. Few burnouts, few races, drinking beer and benchracing. Around the 4 of July we shot eachother with bottle rockets, once in a while we’d have a toga party!😀 It was a great time to be young, have a nice car, and carry on a little bit. At 19 I fell in love. I got married and went in the Army. Till I got home in 4 years, the dance was closed and the Summer Nationals were a thing of the past.🙁 Freaking idiots starting fights and causing vandalism ruined what had been a 30 some year tradition.🤬 My generation sorta policed ourselves, keeping the lowlifes under control. I would be out with whichever girl I was dating at the time. I would take them to dinner then we would meet up with friends at one of the hangouts. Then we always ended up parked back in a remote wooded plot one my families farms. Friday nights were usually boys night out. That was usually hanging out somewhere around our vehicles beer drinking and cutting up.
Life can be rough on us dreamers.

drag raced, lake, girls, lots of beer, road hunting was a thing even though we had places to hunt. the 70s and early 80s were a blast. Dazed and Confused was more than a movie.

Burning up 39.99 cents/gallon Sonoco 260 in my '70 Hemi 'Cuda. Getting lucky sometimes with a girl and a blanket on a golf course.
