hunted the last few days with a close friend whose rifle and scope I helped purchase and mounted some years back. I mentioned what a deal we ot ion the scope and how it had an excellent reputation and was Japanese etc....

Well heck- next day we are heading out and he shows me his scope has a big fog spot inside. It is now hazy. I printed a warranty return card out and told him to send it but I am seeing conflicting warranty information.

Some said unlimited no question lifetime and another said two year.

If they have to replace it what current model would be comparable?

If they don't replace or repair I will probably send him to the Sightron S1 or Burris or maybe the Leupold VX Freedom. He won't be sending any money.

I've always heard they replace rather than repair. Just on that I'd pay to have my own Elite's repaired rather than send them back to Bushnell. YMMV.

Call the outlet store. When I was there they told me to call them if I ever have product issues. They said that they can sometimes provide solutions that CS can't.

So what would be the closest acceptable replacement in their current lineup?

My guess would be the 4500 series.

Been a while, but my CS experience with Bushnell has been er, tedious.

Pappy, the 4500 was my first thought but wasn't sure they were still making them.

His 4200 has the firefly reticle but I think he sees that as new age technology and fears it! lol

He mailed it off yesterday. I will let everyone know how it plays out.

In the meantime I had just happened to have worked on his other rifle and have it working great for him.....albeit with his ancient, BUT TRUSTY, decades-old Tasco.

Funny with him, I all but forced him out of his 70's Widefield some years back after begging him to compare it in low light to a spare Weaver K6 I had. He said it was like a light went off. Next scope he bought (with my help) was the 4200.
