Beautiful!
Thank for posting the eye candy. I would love to see some pics in the field especially a successful hunt pic.

Beautiful rifle, over the top, I've been using Rl17 with 87. I'd like to try 100gr next.

Savage has often had innovative designs, but the quality was lacking.

when the axe came into the woods many of the trees said at least the handle is one of us.

Dandy rifle there. I really like the color case hardening and the wood on that one.

What a beautiful rifle! My .250 Savage Ruger RSI does really well with 101 gr Barnes LRX bullets and 36 grains of Reloder 15. I'm getting around 2800 fps from the 18" barrel. A couple of weeks ago I shot a 200lb Whitetail buck with it. The bullet broke both shoulders (offhand shot at 90yds--no time to set up a rest), full pass though. He was dead on the ground in less than 5 seconds.

My RSI just got out for a little shooting. By best was with 100 Hot Cor and Varget at 2680 Avg from the Garmin. That is a beautiful rifle above! I have not hunted with mine yet, but hopefully this year. Been playing with a Steyr .260 Mtn Rifle today, and it loves the Barnes Tipped TSX. I can't get the RSI to like the Barnes yet, but I will try some more.

Best,

Chris in AL

I just found some 80 grain TTSX that I'll give a try.

In 2002 I was perusing the Cabelas Library for treasure.

I spotted a 250-3000 M70 post 64 with no price on it. I asked the attendant why no price. He said they just got in a whole estate sale and hadn't priced them all yet. But he believed most were unfired.

Well I asked him for a price and he came back with "Would $350 do it". Of course I almost fell over and walked out the door a happy camper with my son's 12th birthday gift.

It wasn't until I got home that I realized I had overlooked the custom barrel on the rifle in my haste to buy it.

BTW my son got his first buck with it that year....100g Barnes between the shoulders blades as it walked under his stand grunting at some does.

I used to have a really nice 250-3000, sold it to a Campfire member a few years ago. Started with a Win 70 Compact and installed a new barrel in 250-3000, duplicating factory featherweight contour at 20". My three sons used it to take roughly 10 deer before moving on to the 257R. It sported a Leupold 2.2x8 in Talley steel rigns/bases. Fifth from top.

If it’s a 1:10 twist barrel, it will stabilize 100 gr bullets with ease.

My ancient Savage 99 EG stabilizes 100 gr bullets, including the 100 gr Nosler Partition, sans the 2.5 gr tip.
It is an attractive mossback that slays everything from coyotes to Coues whitetails. With a 1 in 14 inch twist. The early 99s made up their own rules as they went along, with tight barrels.

Any thing bigger gets introduced to a pre-war Model 71 .348 or a 1950s M-70 in 338-06... original barrel.

I built one for my boys to start hunting with many years ago. Pretty much every elk and most deer were killed with 100 grain Partitions. All were complete pass- through to my knowledge. A few javelina with the 87 grain Hornady. A few coyotes with lighter bullets.

I've had mine out for 11 days of season and haven't seen anything worth shooting so I'm changing things up rifle wise. I'll start with a 6.5x55 then a 25-06. With a different rifle I'll probably find something to shoot. When the late doe season rolls around the 250 Savage will get another turn
