horse1--I'm also interested in this statement. What does "hit pressure" mean? Flat primers, or something else?

It's been a while now, going off the top of my head I believe I ran into flat primers and sticky bolts before I reached 3200fps. I believe I still have some in my shop that need to be disassembled so I might be able to get a better idea what I was trying to do. IIRC the version of Quickload I had at the time didn't include the 145LRX and I used 150gn TTSX as my starting point.

Old thread but I'll chime in. 46gr of Big Game and seated 0.050" off lands has worked great in my 7mm-08, yields about 2850fps.

Also very accurate in 280AI with 60.7gr Hunter also 0.050" for 3150fps. Will be working on a load for 280 Rem soon, interested if anyone has done similar.

I have loaded them in 7x57, 280 AI and 7mm Remington. Accuracy was exceptional in all 3 with the 7x57 most accurate of the 3.

The Magnum hit 3200fps, the Mauser a shade under 2900fps and the AI around 3000fps. Best powder was H 4350 in the Remington and.Mauser and H 4831sc in the Ackley. I am sure H 4350 would also work well in the Ackley but I only tried slower powders.

My 24" AI was decent @ 3160 with RL26, but better accuracy with RL23 @ 3090.

Ended up going with 40.5 grains of Varget and the 145 LRX bullets. Getting good groups in and around .600 - .700 mark from a 700 CDL with a 24 inch barrel that received a new TT trigger.

The 139 gr LRX has the lowest impact velocity for expansion than any of the other LRX bullets. The lighter weight will allow for faster muzzle velocity thus the bullet will hit faster and that means more hydrostatic shock (think of the pictures and videos you've seen of ballistic gel) dumped into the animal. Since the bullet is monometal it does not loose weight like a cup and core bullet thus it retains the momentum and thus deeper penetration. The Barnes Bullets are designed to come to full expansion within 1", maybe 1.5", of impact. They use fluid from hide, bone, flesh and organs to enter into the hollow cavity and expand the petals outward.

I worked up a load with these using RL-23 in my 7mm Rem Mag. The load shot well but I haven't used it on game yet.

I used plain old H4831SC in my 280 Rem 7600 and the 145 LRX's.

Never fired them at 100, only 200 and 250 yards while trying to zero up the old wandering 2.5x8, but it shoots decent enough.

Barnes load data shows 51.5 as max for H4831sc in 280.

Is the 280 load data so anemic that going that far passed max is still within 65k psi?

I loaded some 140gr trophy bonded tips at 55gr H4831sc to try. Already have a load for the 145 LRX in my 700 mountain rifle with 53.5gr of Ramshot Hunter that shoots real well.

Not a clue. I will say this 8lb'er of powder won't make 3000 with a 130 grain bullet in any 270 Win I have tried the loads in with less than 60 grains of powder.

I just ran it through QL, likely what I did when I started the load work and it shows about 2975 as max around 63000PSI. So, I tend to think I am okay, they are plain old Hornady cases so I think if I were running the hell out of them, they wouldn't have lasted as long as they have. I would say with the Barnes data you'd be lucky to get a cool 2700 out of it, but that's just a guess.

His load above was for the AI version.

I have a few boxes of those 145's and noticed in the labelling that they changed the sku # around 2019.

Anyone know what change was made to require that?

Could that have been around the time that Sierra acquired them?

Before that. I'm talking 5 years back. Sierra backers took over in 2020.
