I've always wanted to get a nice Mauser Cavalry carbine in VG condition, with a VG+ to excellent bore, in 7x57. A 95 Spanish or a 1908 Serbian would be OK.
I've probably been to 50 gun shows in my life, and have never found one. The only one that came close was an Argentine Mauser carbine, and I just didn't want to fool with the odd cartridge.
All of the other ones I have seen have had bores that look like a sewer pipe. And now, I see those for sale online with asking prices of $700 to $800. (Why would anybody want to pay that for an unshootable rifle? Just to hang it on the wall???)
If anybody knows any sources for high quality condition Mauser Cavalry carbines, please let me know. ( If only those beautiful Persian mauser carbines were in 7x57, I would have bought one by now.)
Thanks for any information.

Thanks for the pictures and information.
I routinely check Gunbroker and GunsInternational, and to my surprise, that is where most of the trash condition cavalry carbines are listed. No nice ones.
Thanks,

Our local gun shows seem to have tons of the cavalry carbines on the tables. Well over priced as always but if you are willing to pay them, they are there.

7,65x53...odd cartridge? Only Argentina with a low bank account and poor credit adopted the mediocre 1891 for financial reasons. All the countries after were able to load it to it's potential...fully the equal to the 7,62x51 or .308. Odd Argentina weapon of choice yes (rectified by the 1909)...but not an odd cartridge when loaded to 1898 and later actions. I have been on a 25 year search for a 1904 Norwegian Engineer carbine..with no luck, I'm thinking they were never imported over here and there were few produced anyway.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

The 7.65x53 (or 54) and the 7.62x51 are the same thing only different.

Not yet, it hasn't been all that bad so far. Was in Eureka this AM, no flooding yet but NWS says more on the way. Flood watch thru the weekend, The Eel is not too bad yet, 2.5" so far and couple hrs w/o electric last night> I've seen a lot worse.

How is Simpsons LTD to deal with? They had some carbines. I quit looking after forty pages. I was impressed with the assortment of firearms and their descriptions and photos. I noticed they had a large number of imported Husqvarna's and post 64 New Haven and USRAC Model 70s. Most were 30-06 some were scoped. They had seen some use but still looked serviceable and the prices weren't out of sight.

I have never dealt with them personally, but a few of the guys here on the fire have. I check out the website every now and then. They get lots of unusual items, and sometimes they sell quickly.

Thanks. I checked on Simpson, and they have some really interesting mausers, but right now, nothing in cavalry carbines in 7mm.

I've bought from Simpsons recently and it was a very smooth transaction. No problems.
