Or maybe a clue what to look for for what vintage. The serial number is SS0700. Stylized initial on the grip cap in brass that looks like maybe a D over an A.
I think it’s a base model in matte blue. Pretty fair stick of walnut but not near exhibition.
Came with a Zeiss conquest 3.5x10x44 in Talley Mounts.
It’s a 270.
Also had a Murray cartridge carrier on the butt

Good luck with that. I tried it when I bought a M10 here a year or so ago. I called Gulf Breeze Firearms who are a large Dakota dealer. I was able to get an approximated DOM

I looked at some ones for sale that had the same prefix and numerically within a couple of hundred more than mine that were built around 2003 or so.

GW the “Ya” fellow Texan with all the beautiful rifles had a post with a certificate that showed his was made when Don Allen was still alive and the serial number shown had no prefixes.

So my hopes of this being and early Don Allen produced rifle are dashed.

The rifle is a sweetheart hope it shoots and doesn’t break mine

Dakota arms called me and said the rifle was built towards the end of 1993 and shipped in 1994.

They also did many special serial numbers, so sometimes it is near impossible unless the current company has all the old build records.

I was guessing early 90s based on your description. Should be a good gun.
