She used to help pack in the honey moon stage. Gutting wasn’t her thing but would help when I was quartering elk up for the pack out. Now I do everything but she is the designated wrapper.

My wife never touches any of it till I have finished processing. She likes eating fish and.game. We eat it often. She leaves the cleaning to me.

My little Chinese gal not only helps me when I skin and quarter, last year she helped me drag three out, one in the dead of night. I dragged the first one this season out myself, a short trip, but if I tag another one way back, I’m going home to get her again. All this gun and hunting stuff is totally foreign to someone that grew up in Mao’s China, but she’s all in on “free” meat and fish. She has yet to experience dressing out a deer, but she’s the designated fish-cleaner here. I taught her how to fillet, something the Use-it-All Chinese don’t usually do, and she does a good job on the slimy hatchery rainbows we catch. I call her my cheap foreign labor….. Nice Pic... Glad for you... She sent a video I took of her dragging that one down a forest trail to her daughter in China. The girl couldn’t believe it, replied, “Mommy, you live in a fantasy world!”. Couldn’t have found a better woman anywhere……

Curious Paul, why do you leave the silver skin on when freezing? She will hold a leg which is a big help. After that I skin, quarter, and chunk. She does the rest and the chunks are clean as a whistle before packing. Ironically she will not eat whole muscle but all of of the ground is used in lasagna, spaghetti etc. It's the way, the guy that taught me, did the backstraps. Said it helps prevent freezer burn, mind you, he was a freezer paper wrapper ! Obviously, thaw & remove with a fillet knife prior to skillet / flat top. Hard to change something ingrained, I guess.
Paul.

I leave it on too, and trim it off when I thaw it to cook it.

My mother, rest her soul, was born on Long Island and raised on the Main Line in Philadelphia. Debutant, chauffeur, etc. After marrying my father, they became back-to-the-land hippies. She could skin a deer in about 15 minutes. Then she and my father would transform the kitchen into an abattoir. About an hour after dragging the deer out of the woods, it would be processed and in the freezer.
I had one girlfriend who helped me field dress a deer. I would have happily married that young lady, but she declined my offer.

Its nice to have it ready to go. Cutting into uniform thickness is much easier partially frozen. The freezerburn thing would have been real but with vacuum sealing that is a thing of the past. But, I get it, hard to change how you always did things! Kind of like skinning, head up or head down. Either way, they all eat the same.......great!

That looks great and we do loins from time to time like that. For chunks, family favorite is basically "chicken fried" so they get sliced first. As long as you don't kill it a second time you can't go wrong either way!

My sweetheart. Mentioned previously. When we met she'd never been within ten miles of a dead critter of any kind. Never fished, nor shot even a pop gun. Things have progressed...

She helps cook it, I feel like dressing it and cutting is a man's Job. My kids help skin rabbits and some times deers but wifey doesn't.
when the axe came into the woods many of the trees said at least the handle is one of us.

Mine hunts but I always volunteer to do the dirty work. She'll wrap meat though.

Mine doesn’t hunt (with her eyesight, that’s good for everyone!), but she’s a serious killer of stocked trout. I created a monster of sorts when I taught her to fish.
