I still burn a lot of Unique in handguns and rifles, and thank God I had the foresight to squirrel away a couple kegs during the "fat times". Embarrassing quantities of Red Dot, Bullseye, W-231, Clays, and Universal Clays - all measured in keg quantities too - rounds out my stash of handgun/light rifle powders. The only reason I have AA-series powders and more "modern" Hodgdon stuff too is purely for academic reasons, but darned if I ever get around to experimenting with them so I ought to just sell them and buy some good whiskey with the money.
Some of that was due to foresight, but a lot was due to old guys dying and leaving it to me plus buddies who quit the reloading game or moved out of state and left it behind for me to deal with - and thank God for that as I ain't some rich dude!

I know there are options, and I appreciate hearing about them.
But I feel like if they're gonna DC Unique, they should get rid of Quaker Oats, Coca Cola, and maybe burn all the old Lassie reels.
Had an off feel to it when Hercules became Alliant. And it never really was Alliant to me, where Unique was concerned.
Just one guy's opinion.....

It's not only Unique; there's so much handgun and shot shell data for Bullseye, 2400, Red Dot and Herco it's crazy. Blue Dot and Green Dot to a lesser extent.
It's was before any of us were around, but IMR and Hercules were split up because they were a monopoly, but today Vista isn't....

I've been loading Unique since the late 1970's, for the last 30 yrs. it's all I load in .44 Special, .44 Magnum and 9mm. I also use it in cast bullet rifle loads.

Lil Gun is slower in some applications, peaks out quicker than H110 in others.
It reduces and ignites easily with a std primer like 2400, something AA9, H110 an 1680 don't do worth a [bleep]. Guess you have never used AA9.... I've burned a lot of AA9 in 44mag, but it definitely works better with a mag primer. I like 2400 better because it lights easier. But both Alliant and Accurate have had spotty availability so I switched to Ramshot Enforcer which is slower. LilGun is THE powder for 20ga waterfowl loads (1oz,#3 1500fps). I don't use it or H110/W296 for 44mag anymore. If I were loading high-end 10mm I would try to find AA9. But I wouldn't bother looking for 2400 except at estate sales.
