There's been some discussions on the merit of the Super 30 to more "modern" cartridges. Not to hijack a thread but I love my 300 H&H and would choose it long before I went with a 300 WSM or a 300 Win Mag or Weatherby's 300. The H&H has been getting it done for well over 100 years and will continue to do so. It's got panache that the other cartridge designations lack
I like the classics and single shots so here is my 300 H&H. I once again turned to the Ruger #1 action. To add just a tad more panache I had the barrel band case colred.[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc] [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc] [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc] [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]anonymous photo sharing [Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

The barrel is a Douglas Premium. It was stocked by a good friend who also happens to be a first rate gunsmith who is now retired for the most part. I have shot Sierra Game King 165, Hornady Interlock 180's and Nosler 200 grain Accubonds through it. It will shoot all these into an inch and sometimes a tad less If I do my part.

Very nice. Can't beat a beautiful rifle that also shoots well. Congrats!! That one is a keeper!

The custom quarter rib ensured the rear ring placement.

Beautiful Number 1
Was it a magnum before you put the 300 H&H barrel on? I would assume it would be easier to convert if it was a 7 mag or some other magnum caliber.
Who ever checkered it was pretty darn good.

Not saying anything that not already stated. However this is cool!

I'm curious on what is the length of the ebony tip and haw far is the barrel band from the start of the forearm tip? I've never thought about having the barrel band case hardened.

It wasn't a magnum chambering to begin with. IIRC it was a varmint barre in 220 Swift.

The Ebony tip is 2 inches long and from the from the front of the tip to the barrel band is 3 inches. I never thought of having the barrel band case hardened either, it was the gunsmith that did it.

You know, I keep wondering, if that long shoulder of the .300 H&H, isn't part of its reputation for accuracy. Smoother gas flow, less vibration?

It’s undeniable that the .300 Ouch n Ouch is an excellent cartridge, and your rifle is gorgeous!

It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
