The reason a fork and knife, as well as all other associated cutlery (dinner spoons, soup spoons, salad forks, etc.) are used by the Brits is to promote eating in a deliberate and slow manner. This supposedly encouraged women from over eating, and men to engage in dinner conversation, as dinner was often an event and not just a meal. The British army taught it's officer corps this as part of their basic officer training, as it was considered to be one of the hallmarks of a gentleman.
Maybe pity would be a better word. They falsely believe that they're above everyone else, especially us rebels and that what they do and say actually matters. Kind of like movie stars, right?

I’ll eat hamburgers and pizza sometimes with a knife and fork because it slows down my eating. I have a tendency to wolf stuff down like a puppy fighting over steak scraps. The knife and fork makes me slow down and think about it a bit longer so I get full quicker, therefore I don’t get as fat.

This. Many countries other than the UK use knife and fork. I do here in America depending on the situation tho I simply halve or quarter the burger if it’s large.
