I'm hunting my RS in 300 this week. The swivels look like they are one inch, maybe a wee bit more. I have a near mint leather sling on a 1923 NRA. Looks like it's one inch, maybe a wee bit less. I'm going to see how it fits. I need a sling in my stand to hang the rifle.

Any chance that sling would be the same as the ones used on the RS? It will go back on the NRA, just widens the field of finding a nice period sling for the RS.

The early 99RS used a 7/8" sling swivel and sling.

For hanging the gun while on stand any old sling will suffice, even a hunk of binder twine if it comes to that. Begs the question though why hang it? "Hold on you deer. Stay put while I unhang my rifle and drills ya."

I usually keep my gun in my lap while hunting in a tree stand. But having a sling to hang it is paramount when nature calls or you need to dig in your backpack or need a drink or a bite to eat.

I've unhung my bow (and rifle) dozens of times from the hook to shoot a deer, even when the deer where right on top of me.

Bow hunting teaches you the lesson that you usually have more time to shoot at a deer than you might otherwise think, if you have only had the experience of hunting with a rifle.

Joe:

If you RS swivels are original to the gun, a 1 inch sling is not going to fit. As previously noted...
