I'm primarily a forged, machined, blue steel and walnut guy. But I'm a dinosaur in an age where most new gun nuts are cosplayers and LARPers. The upside is as you describe; some lifelong hunter had an Al Biesen build his dream rifle on an '09 Argentine and now he's gone on to the Great Council Fire. The dip$hit grandson who can't find his bunghole with both hands doesn't give a tinker's damn about anything not in the latest John Wick movie, so he will sell you that piece of art for a pittance.

I don't get fleas because I haven't laid down with dogs. As to complaining about the generation coming after, was my job to raise it (in my family) - I did and I didn't phouc it up so yeah, zero concerns about my son and what will or won't happen with my gear - I did my job and I did it right. YMMV...

I mentioned to our son a couple of months back that any guns that I hand down to him are "on loan until I'm gone", his reply was "dad, I only add guns"

Pick a deserving youngster and mentor him/her to appreciate the fine quality guns they will eventually inherit from you, and encourage them to do the same when it's their time to be the graybeard elder. My kids (OK, at least one of them) and two grandsons will benefit from that tradition, I hope. There are also a very few non-relatives that I've chosen to share possessions and knowledge with. The rest of the world can go pizz up a rope!
