The 2024 greater southern Africa region hunting season has either closed or is winding down to the last couple of weeks. I just wanted to congratulate everyone who managed to make a trip this year. Either your 1st or your 50th, every trip is a considerable undertaking. Hope you all had a great time, took some good heads and most importantly, made some life-long memories and maybe a few life-long friends.
For those who are still wanting/planning to go, as I always say, make a plan and go as soon as you can. Africa is always changing, some for the better and some not so much. Lots of good resources for first hand information is approaching with the major hunting/outdoor conventions like DSC, SCI and others rapidly approaching. Some great information along with the ability to meet potential outfitters and PH’s face to face and have your major questions and prices answered. Only downside to the “big show” vendors is, the hunting business is a business – never forget that. Their attendance isn’t free and for them, with the exchange rates, costs them a considerable amount of money. They have to work that into their overall prices. Always remember, there can be some great deals by searching out the small operators who can’t afford to attend and can offer smaller and more personalized experiences.
Anyway….Congratulations to everyone who made a trip. While everyone is getting wrapped up with the US hunting seasons, it’s also a good time to talk with your hunting friends about maybe making a trip with you. It’s almost never too early to start “making a plan”.
I’m hoping to make a trip or maybe two back to Botswana for 2025. One to the same place in the Tuli block late Aug 2025 and one to a new place I haven’t been in the NW near Maun in mid-late May 2025
All the best to everyone and I hope you, your families and friends have a great hunting and holiday season.

I agree whole heartedly with Taco. I've gone to South Africa 3 times in the last 10 years. Every time I note the decay and deterioration in East London and other communities. Go while you can. You won't regret it.
If you're struggling to find an outfitter, shoot me a PM. The outfit I've gone with is small and private, catering to what I want. They work very hard and it is real hunting, no shooting from vehicles etc. The properties are almost all fenced, but the properties are huge and I've never seen a fence interfere with the animals escape. You drive in accross the cattle guard and you drive out. That's the only time you see the fence.
Just go, go now. You won't regret it.

One more voice for the “just go and go now” sentiment.

Put a couple hundred bucks away in a special account every month. Before you know it, you'll have your trip paid for. Leave the heads there if you can't afford the shipping. Take a million photos. The first safari is so special. Kind of like your first love. Just go and experience it. Ask questions here and the information will flow in. I can't wait to go back but life has different plans at the moment but I will go again soon. Good luck to everyone!

Tomorrow is promised for nobody. Go while you can. The day will come for all of us when we can no longer make the trip across the pond. I’m taking an 81 year old friend on his last African hunt this May; we’ll be hunting Buffalo in Zimbabwe with Alan Vincent. Then in October I’m off to Zambia to hunt with Johnny DuPlooy.

I’ve hunted in Namibia SIX times, starting in 2012. The first 3 trips were financed from an inheritance from my Dad’s estate. Half the proceeds I used to set up 529 College Trusts for my four grandkids. This is something my Dad would have wanted. The balance was used to hunt with Sebra Hunting Safaris near Kamanjab Namibia. The last three trips were also with Sebra and were financed by selling off a bunch of my “Safe Queens”, firearms I’ve accumulated over the years and seldom if ever used. Now that I’m 77 years old, I’m planning on one last Sebra safari, pursuing Bull Eland, Impala, Baboons and a management Gemsbok for the delicious meat. I’ve endured surgery on my left knee, gallbladder and inguinal hernia to allow my previous hunts and will undergo Cataract Surgery in March 2025. Despite my previous knee surgery, arthritis in my knees has persisted despite injections and physical therapy. I have hundreds of trophy pictures and numerous European Mounts, so the memories will live forever for me.
