Free for a non resident to shoot? A lot of land for the non residents to hunt?

I am very curious about this too. I would love to hunt them both. Thanks.
Pretty sure I know what the answer will be.

Unfortunately there is not allot of Public land in Texas. I really wish there was. I am very fortunate to have access to a ranch that is a 7 hour drive from where I live. Leasing and Hunting clubs have always been the way in Texas. Unfortunately, like allot of things the prices have increased to the crazy level. Hunting here is becoming a rich man's sport and the traditions are dying.

If I owned the property I would invite you to come hunt as we have a crazy number of hogs and now the Aoudad are taking over. The land owner doesn't allow guests and grants very little access. A few stupid slobs that left gates open, trash everywhere, and shot stuff they were not supposed to ruined it. It is a shame.

I really wish there were more public hunting opportunities in this state.
East TX has acres and acres of public and plenty of hogs. FWIW

Ok...curiousity getting the better of me.

You guys running traps, how do you trigger the door to trap them?
Cell trigger??

We usually take them as targets of opportunity, due to the lower (estimated by us) population where we hunt.
My buddy & his wife are pondering building a trap to secure a higher percentage of swine.
From my sporadic samples, the small ones are delicious.

Nope that one is the CZ 600 LUX in .223

When shooting hogs with the CZ in .22 mag I've been using Winchester Silvertip personal defense ammo. It gives me the best velocity( 2170 fps)good accuracy, and in all the tests I could find it had excellent penetration . It certainly had proven itself on the hogs.

Awww, nice. Has a similar stock smile

Good info on load, thanks.

Excellent speed in rifle, believe listed much less in shorter pistol test barrel.

Thanks and congrats on your hunt.

Dad got a Celestone shot yesterday, so he was up all night. Checked his field every 30 minutes and wound up taking out three more off the front porch. 150-250yds, 308 RAR Ranch, Thermion 2 XP50 Pro.

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

He wanted some redemption after this chunky one got by him night before last when hunting one of our other hog spots. Said he was just hitting record on his scope when the boar spooked and bolted at 150yds. No rhyme or reason that he could figure. We'll probably flip a coin to see who gets to go after him again, as he was back again last night at 7pm or so.

That's a slick and perfect-sized sow right there. My favorite ones to keep for the freezer.

One small bull Canadian moose shot in the lungs at 80 yards put it on the ground after about a 80yd run. A finisher was required.

Hornady American Whitetail 129gr Interlock.

I later loaded a Barnes 127gr LRX. It was deadly on mule deer and whitetail.

Sow shot with my Ruger #1 280AI. 94 yards low light conditions. 162 grain ELD-X just below the right eye was more than she could tolerate. No tracking required.

I need to go to lease for a few days, set my traps, see what I can catch. I have 4 round pens and a cage trap. Sometimes you catch some, sometimes you don’t

I was going to go out one evening last week to try to catch up with a boar that was getting to be a regular on camera, but a wind storm had different ideas for me. (Should have anchored it down)

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

We got the stand winched back up, so Pop went out last night in the rain. That same lone boar stuck to his schedule and paid the price. Headshot with the Thermion did him in.

We had some crazy stout winds here. Mobile home anchors can’t be beat. I use one anchor under the middle of my box stands. Twist them in with a 2x4 and put an eye bolt in the center floor joist. Tighten down with a ratchet strap or a length of chain and a turnbuckle.

No T post or cable guy lines to goof with.

Yep! We will often dig 2 post holes at opposite corners of the stand, fill them with Sakrete, and then bury a short MH anchor in the mix while it’s wet. Couple of ratchet straps and it’s locked down. I got lazy on that stand, but thankfully it didn’t bugger it up when it fell.

Your dad is giving that Ruger a workout! Good stuff!

We culled three the other night. Past couple trips we haven’t seen any. I guess they migrated across the river.

Shot this fellow late yesterday afternoon with a Cabela M70 in 7x57. It's the first time I've ever caught a bullet just under the hide on the off-side shoulder (140-gr factory Core-Lokt).
