I've got one of the superlative gas blocks on a Ruger sfar in 308. got rid of the factory gas system. I have this thing on the pass-through mode bleeding as much gas off as possible. I have not put a suppressor on it but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work fine except it might be a little overcast from what I'm seeing right now.. if that's purely guessing

I'll test it and "tune" it tomorrow.

I have a handful of SA gas blocks, they're generally my favorite style. One interesting thing about bleed off mode is that it can reduce sound at ear suppressed. Here's a post from a while back by a dead air engineer showing some metering data.

Yeah, this and blowback reduction are my priorities. My son shoots lefty, so it makes an even bigger difference.

The best gas block I've found is the SLR. Easy to adjust, easy to take apart & clean (by design), holds setting & very well made. Easy to change settings & then go back to the original setting.

Generally, a better AGB, in my opinion...............I have quite a few.

OK, went and "tuned" it to 3:30-4 o'clock ejection at an indoor range since it's -11 outside.

I'll be buying more of these. The bleed off mode makes a huge difference in gas blowback.

I'll be interested to see if it functions well in the cold, and if it will cycle reliability without the suppressor.

Will not claim any superlative knowledge on my limited AR "assembling", but I've never used an AGB and I've never has a failure to "3F"!
I belong to another site where the local AR guys have hell trying to "tune" their AGB's and loads to get "optimum" (?) performance.
They will even redrill the gas port on the barrel to open it up or stuff it full of blue "Lok-Tite" in an effort to restrict the barrel gas port.
My only two failed test fires came from a gas block that wasn't properly seated and an AR15 gas tube and buffer in an AR10 rifle!

* - "3F" = feed, fire, function

Have hell trying??? It took less than half a box of ammo.

I'm sure you already know, but if you're close to the edge with having just enough gas to cycle the action reliability, really cold weather with any kind of milder ammo, likely will be a problem.

BTDT.

I will only use non-NATO pressure ammo for range work in warm weather; if you attempt to use anything at all less than what you set up the gun with in warm weather, you will likely need to readjust your GB, or use higher pressure ammo..............suppressed or not, same/same.

I purchase whatever ammo I can get my hands on. I pay no attention to 5.56 or .223.
Never had a problem with either one.

Then, obviously, you really have no idea about what I am discussing; but I'm sure Goalie does.

Sometimes ignorance is truly bliss.

I do.

It's below zero, great coyote weather, so I'm going to drag the Grendel along to see if it works in the cold with the can at this setting.

I'm pretty sure there will be issues unsuppressed this cold, but it should be quick and easy to figure out how many clicks from my indoor "warm" tune is reliable below zero suppressed.
