If anyone is looking for a great wind shirt REI has the Black Diamond Aline Start "soft shell" on sale right now. Mt warden turned me on to these a few years back. I've been wearing one hiking and hunting since. They weigh next to nothing but do block wind while at the same time breathing. I ordered a second one today, mainly because REI made the mistake of sending me a coupon for an extra $10 off. I ordered the Tundra flavored shirt. They are the real deal.

As an example, I bought a Sitka Ambient 1/4 zip hoody when they came out. It has replaced all.my fleece layers. Between 20 and 40 degrees, i wear a Sitka Core Lightweight next to skin and the Ambient and that keeps me warm enough and moves any sweat for the hike into my spot. If it's windy, I simply add the Alpine Start to the equation.

When I arrive and want to still hunt, I put on the Sitka Ambient jkt (200 gr Polargurd). If its windy or cold I simply put the Alpine Start over both Ambients. That system has worked well for me when I'm being mobile and want flexibility to srtill hunt and/or sit for a while when it's chilly or colder.

I would add that the Sitka Ambient is not a high clo value insulation. It is an 'active insulation piece. In theoy I'm wearing 300 grams of total insulation when I wear both, I can assure you it is not like wearing 300 gramss o anything like Primaloft Gold or equivalent. I would swag it at about 1/2 the insulating value of PL Gold, about in-line with estimated clo values. That system excels for my style of hunting which is generally.mobile with periods of sitting.

About all of them I've seen are pull over. I have 2 bad shoulders and pull overs don't agree with them.

The BD Alpine Start is a full zip jacket. Had it on today during my hike.

Thanks for some reason I couldn't find that earlier.

Unfortunately I found a Stone Glacier DeHavilland jacket at Eurooptic.com for 100$. The BD looks nice

Need to go up a size to get over the Ambient jacket?

Do or do not, there is no try.
