Still had KP when I was in basic , but as far as I know they were turning it all over to civilian contract type work later on...Joe

The last I knew there were no KP duties after basic training. kwg

For my first 4years as an enlisted MP it was a daily thing with jump boots, minus the year I spent in Korea when the houseboy took care of it.
When I came back in as a 2LT, it stopped completely.. brush shine on jungle boots, regular boots, Herman Survivors and Danner Ft. Lewis boots. I later transitioned to tan suede boots before retiring.

Ha! USAF basic, 1956. Our flight got a combo of army uniforms and the newer USAF stuff. Traditional khakis were good, the newer 505s sucked. Got one pair of black smooth brogans and one pair of the old suede army boots with the two straps on top. We were ordered to cut off the tops with straps, dye the suede black and spit shine them. Imagine how much Kiwi polish it took to spit shine suede! On the plus side they were great boots, comfortable and outwore the newer stuff.
Another squadron had to scrape the soles with razor blades and spit shine the soles.
Stupidity has its way, while its cousin, evil, runs rampant.
