Asked my son-in-law why he wasn't shooting those big does and he sends me this picture. Took a day off from work to go hunting and didn't bring any bullets. He'll never forget this, making memories hunting.

Never done that, but I did drive all the way to deer camp (90 miles) and left my quiver with my broadhead arrows at home. Had my wife meet me halfway. I felt like a dumbazz.

Friend showed up to camp once with a 700 in 280 and had brought 30-06 ammo.

I always keep a few extra rounds in the glove box for that very reason.

We had a guy forget the key for his trigger lock. That cost him opening morning and a 200 mile round trip back home.

No ammo along says something about hunting with a common cartridge.

My mags and/or well stay loaded all winter. I have no reason to empty my magazine whether removable or not.

Always a few extra cartridges in inner coat pocket as well. Never put them up until after season.

Growing up, my brother and I had stands about 800yds apart on a big powerline ROW. When it broke daylight on opening morning, I could see that he was not in his stand. Later that morning, he pulled up in the truck to get me and revealed that he'd forgotten all his ammo, so he slept in the truck. We also had a guy get his ATV unloaded at the parking area on opening morning, only to discover that he'd forgotten his rifle at home.

It happens to many of us. A few years ago I met my son and grandson, who at that time was around 18yo, for a whitetail hunt. As I got out of the truck I noticed my son was a little irritated with my grandson. He had left is ammo at home and neither my son's or my ammo was comparable with his rifle.

My son had always pushed my grandson to be responsible for himself and my son was not one to back check behind him, even when he was very young. It was my grandson's responsibility to get his gear together whether going on a hockey trip, fishing trip or a hunting trip. Grandson is a junior in college now and is a very responsible guy.

I transport my rifles in either soft or hard cases, never put them in a vehicle uncased. Each rifle has its own case. In each case there are always three or four rounds of the current load I am using for that rifle...just in case.

I forgot my ammo once about 20 years ago after driving about a half hour to a friends farm. I borrowed a Remington 760 .308 from him and went hunting anyway. Since then I always keep 5 extra shells for all my rifles in my truck during deer season.

My cousins daughter was going to be deer hunting with her friends about 100 miles away. He was hunting at the family property. He handed her 2 boxes of ammo and told her to have fun. Only problem was he only had 2 boxes of ammo. I sold him some ammo at a reasonable price and only required an unreasonable amount of begging.

Brother left his bolt on the kitchen table 200 miles from where we were at. He never made fun of me taking 2 rifles for a 2 day trip again.
