Scenarshooter - I love the 4 out of five stand. Best I ever did was 3 of 4 with a #1 220. I took pic's with the intent of learning to post, but stopped to remove my coveralls, dropped the camera (it spent 5 days in a county road before I found it) and the pic's couldn't be recovered I've not taken the time or lessons on how to post pic's since, but need to. Congrats, Mark You were busy "dropping the block" good shooting! I've done 5 for 5 three times in my career, and had chances for six and seven, but it didn't work out. The adrenaline really builds after you start working them....I still shake when it's over and I've been at for over 40 years.

If that old Sako swift could talk ....... From the looks of things it has done a bunch of talking!! That old rifle has 1,896 coyote kills to it's credit. I bought it new in 1978. It doesn't see that much use anymore for a calling rifle since I started using precision rifles for that task about ten or twelve years ago, but it still sits on the truck seat every day....that one stays in the family after I'm dead and gone..... Wow that's a bunch of coyotes...thanks for all the pictures your the dood... By the way sako 579 is a precition rifle. Just sayn..

Pat, enjoyed this thread, and the visit. while i've got a bundle of your pics, i keep thinking of how fine those dogs are north of the Missouri... while some might marvel at the 1800+ dogs on a single rig, even more thought provoking is this: someone asked Pat one time a number of years back about the number of dogs he's dispatched. he replied, "basically, i've killed a dog every day of the year--since i was born--and i'm about 50 years old now...." that guy's mental calculator immediately went riot... here's the mentor and student-- Bob S. and Pat over for a visit, standing in our kitchen, day after Christmas 2015. two of the very best predator hunters in this country: Pat brought along his latest elk, so we could check it out: wife took a pic of three pilgrims out in front of the house: it was a good visit--like old times-- from way back.

...in the day. Old reliable Sako L579 Swift. Five came in together, one ran off unscathed. Circa 1985. Back then all I carried was a rifle, a call, and a pair on binoculars. Those old Sako's are good rifles, how many barrels have you had on the rifle and would you mind telling the loads you used. Joe

Another "oldie" from 1986. That's the Bridger Range in the background. Only seven miles west of Bozeman. I had trapped quite a few red fox from this piece of farm ground over the years. One day I went to check my equipment there and found one of my traps had a toe nail of a coyote in it. I'd never seen coyote sign there before. The following year I upgraded from 1 1/2 Victor coil springs, to #2 Norhtwoods with offset jaws. About mid December I caught the same coyote who'd left me with his toenail from the year before. He weighed 43 lbs. All of that farm ground is long gone now, taken up by sub-divisions and commercial business buildings. This set was passed on to me from the man Hi Vel mentioned in a previous post, Bob S. It's helped me catch many old, trap shy coyotes over the years. Bob is one of the most accomplished, all around outdoorsman I've ever known....they broke the mold after him...

Early 1980's, north of Tom Miner Basin. Dome Mountain and the Upper Yellowstone River behind me. A friend and I had been camped in there for about a week, watching and waiting for a group of 25 large mature bull elk to shed their antlers in late March.

Great thread. Love the pictures and the stories! Hi Vel, it wasn't easy getting that monsterous elk rack in the frame, was it? By the way, thanks again for the Reticle tru tool. I was using it the other day switching out scopes for a friend.

I love looking at those old pics. Can't imagine the hard work, day in , day out to trap/shoot all those 'yotes, cats and foxes.

OSD,
that rack was heavy!
it wasn't so bad fitting it in the frame--but sure was a challenge placing and cinching it down in the truck bed...
Bob comes by once, sometimes twice a week. have known him 46 years, and there's no one like him.
was at the dentist a couple weeks back, and the doc was talking about bow hunting. he talked about Paul Schafer and Gene Wensel. when i asked him if he had ever heard of Bob, he said, "that man is a LEGEND"
besides being the maker of the renowned Deathmaster bows, he is without a doubt easily one of the very best predator hunters and trappers ever to take to the fields...
last week some fella asked Mike R. (predator trapper in gov't) if he knew of any good books on trapping. Mike pointed at Bob and said, "there's the book."
good to know the RT device is coming in handy for you...
