I may have the opportunity to buy a complete set of NIB 700 classics. This helps come up with a fair price per rifle.

I've seen quite a few boxed 700 Classic's on GI this year all desirable calibers with high prices to boot, these Cabela's listings more reasonable pricing. A guy bought a 250 Savage turned out to be a great shooter shot a deer this past season, bang flop.

Of course these are asking prices if the rifles are unsold. Value seems to vary on these guns depending on the chambering. The 6mm is fairly rare and was not one of the limited one year runs. 280’s don’t show up too often on the used market. The other rounds listed above seem not quite as scarce and may bring less money. You probably already know this, but it will affect the value of the collection.

AKwolverine: Indeed I did notice the original "price sticker" on that 280 Remington 700 Classic!
Quite an appreciation in value.
Makes me feel "warm and fuzzy" about the numerous Remington 700 Classics I have invested in/own/shoot/Hunt with.
Wasn't it your fellow "Alaskan" (the village idiot now known as "small twig"!) that was just seen hereabouts deriding and bemoaning the Remington 700's?
That idiot should learn to keep his stupidity to himself!
Long live the Remington 700's - including the "Classics".
One of the first Remington 700 Classics I bought was 7m/m Remington Magnum that has proven to be a great gun - accurate, reliable and handsome!
And worth 3 (three!) times, now, what I originally paid for it.
Big Green did a LOT of things right back then.

Of course, to be fair, 300 bucks was a lot of money in 1981. I bought my first gun, a 700 BDL 30-06 for $200 in 1977. Gas was around 60 cents a gallon then and 8K bought a new 4wd pickup.

Edited: And just for fun, that same $300 invested in the stock market in 1981 would have grown to $21,000 today.

Not surprised those two sold. I’d have kind of liked that 6mm. Not sure the others will bring that money. Time will tell.

A NIB complete set of all 31 issued M700 Classics (6 unlimited calibers, 25 limited calibers) was offered several years ago on GB or GI for around $28,000 or so

They were/are all priced about the same, the 280 may have been $100.00 more.

No, the 280 had the thinner pad - the only thicker one inch pads I've seen have been magnum chamberings.
I had a Classic in 280 for about 20 yrs.
