I bought a Polaris Ranger Northstar Ultimate this fall and love it. It fits our needs perfectly on our property. The Thumper Fab headache rack with 1500 lb. winch and cube work lights makes loading up deer a snap.

I went with a 1000 ranger because there is a very good dealer and shop where
I keep it. My lease is out of state and it lives there. Also my ranger has a bit more room behind the wheel than a honda.
I would have went for the honda otherwise.

I’ve narrowed it down to the Polaris Ranger and Can Am Defender. I was thinking of going for the Defender but Polaris is offering a $1500 rebate.

Pretty happy with our CanAm Commander. Most of the feedback I got when I was looking was that the Polaris was higher performance in most models when comparing with CanAm similar model, but that the CanAm was a bit more reliable. Our local shop mechanics are almost all running CanAms themselves. So far my experience has been consistent with that. My buddies Polaris will out perform my CanAm but I have had zero problems in nearly three years of use in some pretty rough country in extreme North and South Idaho.

Kawasaki Mule here. Ours is mostly used on the farm to cake the cows, haul firewood, check/fix fences, etc. but I take mine to the deer lease (1000 acres) when I need to add corn to feeders. The collapsable back seat is completely bad-ass. We also take our Mule to northern NM a couple of times a year where we drive it hard and take it to Goose Lake which is a 3000'+ climb to 11,700 ft. above sea level. Not fancy or glitzy looking, but definitely a workhorse!

The convertible backseat and midsize wheelbase pushed me in that direction also. My 2019 Mule FXT PRO has been great, overall.

Most folks I know with Rangers have had great luck/reliability, but I do have one buddy that swears by CanAm after owning both. He tried to talk me into a Commander when I was looking, but ended up the with Polaris General - wanted something a bit more, sporty than the Ranger/Defender for multi-state trail riding. I like the General, but build quality and reliability are already proving to be less than Yamaha (my 5 prior atv’s/motorcycles). Yamaha didn’t make an Rmax with 4 seats and a bed when I was a buyer sadly (came out a few months later).

I have a four door Ranger 2014 model 900 , 2017 1000 General, two 850 two up 4 wheelers, and a 2020 Honda Talon 1000, Polaris stuff is worked pretty hard on ranch, Honda is for the mountains and play, I will be buying a new Polaris Ranger with all the nice stuff on it , tried of eating dirt, cold and hot weather, all the ranchers around here have them with AC and Heat, they love them, at 70 its time for some luxury.

As much as I’ve always liked and wanted some Polaris stuff over the years, I’ve been scared off by what I’ve seen with others’ Rangers. Seems everywhere, with dozens of friends/acquaintances, there’s always major issues and multiple issues. Lots of towing and downtime. Maybe some don’t take care of them or abuse them, but not all. I’ve got a 2006 rhino that’s never missed a beat, save for drive shafts, plugs, brakes, and general maintenance. It’s old, loud, underpowered compared to other stuff, but it won’t die. The guys I know that use stuff on ranches/farms AND hunt are swearing by their Can Ams, vs the Polaris and Honda stuff they’ve had. I can’t ‘know’, but it’s made me leery and leaning Can Am, Kawa, or even another Yamaha….refinements be damned.

We run nothing but Polaris Rangers 6 total for the last 20 years no issues or major problems .....They are run in south Eastern Ky rough terrain...I have already got 1200 trouble free miles and 170 hrs on my 2024 ranger 1000 premium....One of the guys decided to try a pioneer 700 last year. The loudest rattle trap I have ever rode in.....He hated it!!!! it was traded in for another ranger....

My Yamaha RMAX 1000 x4 ONLY HAD 300 Miles on it so far from this fall/winter, but man I like it. Gets me anywhere i need to go, lots of power. Slide the back seats in and plenty of room for an elk. Going to get upper doors and a rear window to enclose it before next fall. 10 year belt warranty is nice too.

Best part, around here SXS have a 35mph speed limit on roads. Sure is nice running 60-65 instead of blocking traffic at 35.

Just another option you MAY want to think about.

We went the Jeep route also after looking at several SxS choices. We liked them, but couldn't justify spending close to $30,000 on the ones we leaned towards when we could get a late model/low mileage 4 door Wrangler for $37,000. The Wrangler turned into a daily driver for me unexpectedly and I have started to rack up a few miles. This would have never been the case for a SxS for our uses.

I always figuratively scratch my head when I see a 4WD truck towing a trailer with an ATV the size of the tow truck.

We saw a Polaris Xpedition in a showroom that was nearly as big as our Jeep and listed for $54,500.
