I'm going to Atlanta. I figured there would be less people and I could make it through in a day vs 3.

Why all the hate for Atlanta? It was DSC that decided to move.

Because the Dallas facility is being torn down and rebuilt. A pretty simple temporary solution really.

It looks like DSC could have stayed in Dallas for at least this January. There is another similar event scheduled as to when DSC would have normally been there.

I live an hour south of Atlanta and will be going Thursday for sure. Maybe another day too. I am hoping to investigate a plains game hunt for 2025 or 26. It will be a retirement present to myself.

This will be my first DSC so any suggestions on specifics to see or do is appreciated!

Yep and even that date will be extended. Now we're STUCK in Atlanta for five years...

DSC show was quiet Thursday, but that's not unusual.

Metro ATl snowed in, 2"-3" of snow fell at my place this
morning now switching to freezing rain. Roads out by me have not been cleared.

I imagine flights into Hartsfield are all jacked up.

Our (two sons and I) 7 AM flight from San Antonio was moved to 9AM then to 10:30 AM then cancelled. We decided to head back to the house and make a pot of stew. I look forward to hearing the reports. I suspect attendance may take a bit of a hit due to the weather.

I saw and talked with the "usual suspects" so to speak yesterday. John Sharp, gang at John X Safaris, one of the Fausti sisters, Kevin Kelly of Kevin's Fine Guns, guys at Safari press etc.

Show is it's typical well organized event. The venue- Georgia World Congress Center - sets up nicely for these types of events. Having the Hilton attached to it makes it easy for exhibitors and attendees.

Same here. Been going to DSC for over 30 straight years. Friends in attendance (both exhibitors and attendees) say it’s SLOW. Heard the shuttle buses weren’t running this morning.

Nashville > Atlanta

Can’t wait to hit SCI. DSC should’ve worked hard on a revenue split with Houston Safari Club and done something at the Brown Convention Center. There were surely better alternatives than Atlanta for this show. Someone got their pockets lined in this move….

I’m gonna go nose around in Nashville for a day. Never been to one of these, but several of the sheep outfitters will purportedly be there.

I’d be glad to share a beverage with any 24HCF guys there.

Biggest mistake to not move the DSC to another venue in DFW or Texas (Houston/San Antonio). Lots of outfitters, DSC members and customers that are pissed over DSC's decision to move to Atlanta. From the DSC members, I hear an awful lot of disdain for the leadership making that decision in a vacuum.

If SCI makes a meaningful sweep into TX and backfills the DSC mistake, I'm not sure DSC will recover.

It's a shame to see some infighting between two hunting groups that are fighting for the same cause. But DSC really screwed the pooch on this one.

Got plenty of friends in the sheep space. Happy to give you some good introductions while you are in Nashville. Feel free to shoot me a PM. Fiancé and I will be there Thursday-Sunday.

I'm going to make a couple of comments. I was with a $1B non-profit for 16 years and know a good bit about large.yearly conventions.

Most likely the move to Atlanta was based on the convention site size and possibly, membership density. The DSC Convention and Expo takes up a lot of space. Having been with an organization that has a yearly conventions in my past, there are only a few cities that have a convention center equivalent in capacity to Dallas. If I remember correctly, Las Vegas, Chicago, Atlanta, and perhaps Orlando.

The bookings for these large venues often happens up to five years in advance. So the booking for Atlanta wasn't just a recent decision. DSC moved the expo based on what the city of Dallas has planned for the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Center several years ago and passed by the citizens , which I am one, in 2022.

As for the City of Dallas, and the proposed teardown of the convention center, that process is way behind.

And frankly I wish it was still in Dallas, my daughter and I enjoy going.

I went from 11am to 4pm yesterday. People traffic was steady but I would not call it busy. There was a good crowd but nothing like I thought there would be. There was some talk about it being lighter in ATL than in Dallas. There were a lot of people looking to book trips and get information, including me. Silencer Shop and Silencer Central were the busiest booths.
