Saw that. Good luck. My somewhat rougher 1948 didn’t draw any interest so I replaced the trigger, the mounts, and the scope and welcomed it back to the fold. Gonna kill some stuff with it and then maybe give it to a descendent.
Yours is very nice. Anyone who values what they are should give it a hard look. I have another, a full custom by the long-dead Paul Morton of San Antonio, with all the goodies: swing safety, turned down barrel, Fisher bottom-metal, Mashburn trigger, and one of Morton’s flashy-schnabel stocks in French. My cousin has claimed it, but has yet to pony up the bucks, so it’s a safe queen, probably a good thing.

I have that same stock on my custom FN Mauser 30-06. The only difference between the two is yours as 2" more barrel. PJ

I’ve actually decided to keep the customized FN 98 and re-list my JC Higgins model 50 instead. The FN couldn’t be built today for under $1600-1700 and I got a great deal on it when I bought it. I love the ergos of that McMillan on it too. I’m getting fickle in my middle age I guess, lol!

PJ, Given a choice, I prefer a 22” or 24” barrel myself.

PJ, Given a choice, I prefer a 22” or 24” barrel myself. Mine has a 24" barrel. It was your rifle that you said had a 26" barrel. About the only times I like a 26" barrel is on magnum rifles. Most of my magnums are on Ruger #1s. I have a couple of M70 Winchesters in .300 and 338 Win. Mags that are 26". PJ

I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

Even the dickhead schnabel? It's an acquired taste that some of us haven't acquired.

That knob was a Morton trademark. He’s listed in some old Gun Digests in the custom gunsmiths’ section and the rifles have that peculiar touch. He did at least some of his work one-handed after a customer accidentally blew one off with a shotgun.
My gunsmith told me he’d have to charge $2k to make a stock of that quality (likely without the penis). IIRC I paid $800 for that rifle about five years ago, maybe $850.
