Was lucky enough to acquire a Sako Vixen in 223 REM. The overall condition of the rifle is 98-99%. Quite nice. I’ve heard these are not necessarily easy to find, especially in .223 caliber. Thinking so paid what is considered reasonable, but would like your take on what you think the value is.

Beauty early 223 Rem. I’m no help on US values but in Canada that’s 1500-1800$
It’s the type of gun you enjoy so much that the cost is irrelevant

Very nice rifle. I bought a standard grade Bofors .223 and probably paid too much for it but it is in exceptional condition. I’d be happy to have yours to go with it.

For some reason, Sako avoided the 223. They made them but not in any significant number. I have several and the last one was a Colt/Sako in mint condition for $1100.00…

Estimate? 800-1100 bux. Some like earlier models, some like later AI versions. This is midstream L-461 production, while extremely clean, it is a relatively common example of the vixen. Still one of the best values out there and a very nice rifle.

Sakohunt, that’s a nice L461, nice wood, a mid 70’s rifle.
You will enjoy it, they don’t make em like that anymore!

Appreciate the responses. Please keep them coming. Was also able to add this one to the collection a few months ago - can’t wait to try it out.

While both guns are nice, that deluxe is a beauty. I’m a fan of the skip line checking but I like the checkering to be the same color as the stock. I’m thinking it’s an oil type finish. Checkered areas absorb the finish more. I had a 270 deluxe years ago that I sold and the color was uniform throughout the stock. The wood was more plain but the gloss finish and rosewood trim made it beautiful. Just my 2 cents.

One of the reasons sako did limited production on 223's is their main market was Europe and many countries banned military cartridges for civilian use. There was very little a 223 could do that the 222 couldn't, considering that fast twists and heavy bullets weren't yet popular in the 223.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Top notch! This the point I was trying to make on the stock color where the checkering is done. It blends well with the rest of the gun. I suspect a different type finish was used in the factory or a different process.
