I kind of think it'll be short lived on WTs but will end up a Elk ? Rifle or bear if he ever goes that way.

I took my Hawkeye African elk hunting in Montana last year, but I used the new NULA '06 for deer in Colorado.
This year I have a Ruger Hawkeye .300 RCM on the way, and I may use that rifle for both this year.

I've used my 375 Wby a fair bit for lopes/deer and course chucks, yotes, beer and elk. It'll do the job and I see no reason why not to.
As for over kill, I think of over kill as walking up to your fallen animal and then emptying the rest of the rounds in your gun into it.

Planning a 375 Alaskan. Don't know for what, yet.

I've got a .375 Ruger that I'm planning on taking a few deer with next season. Not every hunt, but I think it will probably work to get it a little action......
